Grit Region Finals: Class of 2028 Sharp Shooters Part 1

Prep Hoops Illinois was in the Chicago Land Area this weekend checking out the exclusive Grit Region Finals. Over a handful of scouts were in attendance evaluating classes from 2026, 2027, 2028 & beyond. Players showcased their talents and skills in a bracketed format which made for even more enticing and competitive games. For this 2 part series, let's take the part 1 look at some of the sharp shooters that showed up and showed out!    A crafty handler who was nifty sharing the rock in team's first game of the tournament on Friday. Was dropping off a couple no look dimes in the paint. On the outlet his eyes are always peeled ready to pitch it or in the ½ court setting ready to swing it. Overall smooth with his handles. Hit a couple catch and shoot 3's and shot looked fundamentally pure and sound. Defensively he can move his feet to stay in front on the ball and board wise crashed consistently.     Plays alongside another tough guard and together can cause disruptions and heartaches on both ends of the floor. Lost only by a bucket to the eventual champs of tourney in Quarterfinals. Plays mostly in the 2 man slot but can handle the ball when needed to efficiently as well. Lights out shooter who can also score in different ways. Really pure off catch and shoot opportunities. Can get to the rim off the dribble using quickness and tenacity. Shot is lethal spotting up from beyond the arc. Skilled in the transition game playing in the rhythm of offense.     A long 3 man that possess soft poised touch in his shot. Great precision that is tough to guard because of his length. A solid mid range game. Tallied 14 points in the late morning Saturday game. Converted on dribbling middle for a floater from 5 feet and had two other turn around lay ins from same distance. Made a cool pull up jumper from the free throw line that rang true. Spotted up from 3 through the weekend as well and will be one to keep tabs on the North Side of Chicago.       Trustworthy wing that can fill the 2 or 3 spots. Runs the side line at a fast pace. Plays alongside a couple poised and solid guards. Can handle it effectively himself if necessary and is comfortable doing so. Caught him in 2 games over the weekend. First one went for 13 and second one finished with 19 in a hard-fought win. Converted on multiple transition buckets in both contests and can shoot it at a high clip from 3. A smooth off guard that can make a big impact on the game.     Could go on the point guard list as well. Put him on the shooter's list because he is more of a combo guard than just a point. Caught him in 2 games over the weekend. Defensively provides 0 gap pressure on the ball consistently in the ¾ court setting or half court. Created a challenge on opposing teams' guard play with steals and pick off passes. Vision wise, has good eyes for the floor. Hit a cutter on a breakaway and had another nice pitch ahead for a dunk. A hard worker that does the little things correctly.
