wanted an opportunity to play at the next level. The 6-foot guard from Regis got some feelers from different levels, but one school made the most sense. Koehnke recently decided that he'll take his record-setting ways to Jessup University in Caifornia - an opportunity he's excited about taking on.
"I went down to visit earlier this year and I really liked the coaches, especially due to a strong connection I had between one of them," Koehnke said. "I liked the area and environment on the school when I went there and so far have had a great time speaking with their coaching staff."
Jessup plays at the D-II level in the Pacific West Conference and has connections to Oregon - former Scappose/Central Catholic standout Skyler Schmidt was on active roster last year and former Jefferson standout TJ Latu sat out as a redshirt. Koehke is ready for whatever role awaits him and is ready to get to work.
"I see myself fitting in well," Koehnke said. "Most likely will not play much freshman year but past that I believe I can. When they were recruiting me they said they need some people who could shoot so that sounded great to me. I'm definitely working out in the gym to get faster and stronger and then just continuing to build on and improve my skill set."
Koehnke finished his four-year high school career as Oregon's all-time leading scorer in all classifications with 2664 career points, surpassing one of the state's best of all-time in Kevin Love. The feat didn't go unnoticed by the current NBA star as Love came home to Oregon after the season to meet Koehnke and present him with a special letterman's jacket to commemorate the record.
"I feel pretty amazing that was super cool to have accomplished that and it was awesome to meet Kevin," Koehnke said. "He was a pretty great dude."
