16U Standouts at 3SSB West Session I Ladera

PH NorCal was at Ladera Ranch Sports Complex May 2-4 for the Adidas 3SSB Western Session I. NorCal's top ranked 16U prospects were in action against other top prospect on the 3SSB Circuit.    Hudson plays the right way. He's a combo guard with this team. He can effect the game from both guard positions. He'll shift gears at the right time to actively seek buckets using his strength with balance to attack from different areas on the court. He's an excellent facilitator, makes the effort to involve others while running point. He's taking and making good shots. He's a top notch defender.     Gray plays with good energy and pace on both ends of the court. He has foot speed, lateral movement, and determination. He can apply pressure to defend in full court. He gets into his man, fights over screens, recovers well. He's a versatile guard that can generate buckets using his speed in open court, handling bumps and getting to his shots. He has a nice mid-range jumper, he can hit rhythm 3's. He's willing distributor with good vision.     He's a scoring guard that can put points on the board in different ways. He's a clever ball handler, makes good use of his screens to create his shot opportunities, getting defenders off balance. He'll roam the perimeter looking to cross up a defender, then weave his way to the rim, taking the bumps to finish in different ways. He'll get hot dropping 3's. You can call a play for him when you need a bucket, or when the game is on the line.     Smith is usually a reliable pass first point guard willing to patiently operate up top, looking to get others going delivering quality passes. Driving for kick outs, dishes, and dump offs to get assists. We've noticed lately he's become more aggressive looking to get his own shot. He has a nice mid-range jump shot. On Sunday he had a breakout game, he found his rhythm dropping 3's all over the place. He's a calm and steady point guard, now he's knocking down shots. Consistency will be key.     He's doing what he does best, while steadily improving in other areas. He's an alert defender, has good post positioning defending. He moves well patrolling the paint having a presence. He'll get his shot off, but needs to get stronger finishing at or above the rim. He rebounds, has good passing for outlets, and from the post. He's a screener and court runner.     Grissom is on an upward path, he seems to be in the process of improving his game across the board. He's growing and looking better fit to handle the physical play. He's stepped of his defensive intensity guarding hard out in open space with feet and lateral movement. We've seen the improved shooting from 3-point range, he'll get a rebound.
