I believe he has the ability of becoming an elite defender as he continues to grow and mature. He's a great on-ball defender who pressured opponents into turnovers. He also excelled at timing the passes from offensive players. this lead to him jumping passing lanes and taking the ball away. When I watched him play during middle school season; He was all about defense. This past weekend at the Prephoopsnext middle school camp, Karson showed more offensively this time around. He was able to create off the dribble and get to the rim. Whenever a shot was there to take, Karson took full advantage by knocking it down. He scored a number of baskets in transition by running the floor and finishing at the basket. Karson is the kind of player who prides himself on defense. What coach wouldn't want a player of this caliber? He continues to play the game with a do-it-all mentality. This young man can score, pass, rebound and especially, defend! He was awesome at rebounding the basketball on both ends of the floor. Kelly's a physical player who attacks everything on the court with ferocity. Whether it's fighting for boards in the paint, setting screens or scoring tough baskets; Kelly had the competitive drive to make it happen. During three-on threes, he was able to score in the paint over smaller players and knock down mid-range shots. When he played in the full-court runs, Kelly did a little of everything to contribute to his squad. He scored in transition, grabbed offensive rebounds and scored on put-backs around the basket. Where he really stood out was on defense. Kelly blocked multiple shots and forced numerous turnovers with great on-ball defense. What makes this young man so special, is his ability to defend both in the paint and on the perimeter. During the three-on-three sessions, he showed the ability to score in the paint and knock down mid-range shots. Miles really excelled at locking down his opponent defensively. He constantly applied pressure by not allowing the offensive player to get around him. He did this by using his body to stay in front of him, while poking at he ball. Miles brought out another offensive weapon during the half-court sessions; A very good low-post game. He was able to score in the paint by dominating smaller defenders with great post moves. In the full-court runs, he was more effective defensively. Miles forced numerous turnovers with good on-ball defense and the ability to play passing lanes. I watched him perfectly time the opposition passes and steal the ball multiple times. He's also great at rebounding from the guard spot. Miles had no problem attacking the glass and fighting for every loose ball he got his hands on. This guy is a hard-nosed player who gave maximum effort. This young man plays hard by doing all the intangibles for his team. During the full-court runs, Bruce was great at rebounding the basketball and scoring around the basket. I believe he was one of the team leaders in rebounding Saturday afternoon. He attacked the glass with maximum effort and ferociousness. He ran the floor and dished off a number of assists that lead to easy scores for his teammates. Bruce always found himself around the basketball. Whether it was fighting for loose balls, taking charges or making open shots; He was effective for his team. Defensively, Bruce was excellent at forcing turnovers, blocking shots and defending the perimeter. On a number of occasions, I watched him defend players on the wing and force multiple steals with quick hands and great footwork. As he continues to grow and mature, Bruce has a chance to be great in the near future. During the three-on-threes he comfortably scored the ball and locked down his opponent defensively. Carter also showed the ability to make perimeter shots and score in transition during full-court sessions. Despite being one of the youngest players on the court, Carter played with no fear. He didn't mind fighting for rebounds in the paint on both ends of the court. It didn't seem to matter if the opposing players were bigger. Carter was a very confident player, especially on defense. He forced a number of on-ball steals with a ball-hawking style of pressure. Whenever he applied this to opposing guards, positive outcomes happened for his team. Carter already has the skills of a great defender. If he continues to enhance his skills on offense, he could be a special player in the coming years. Whenever he penetrated the paint, something positive seemed to happen. Either he scored or drew in the defense. This lead to easy assists he kicked out to open teammates. In the half-court setting, he was able to show off his scoring ability by knocking down threes and perimeter shots. He also scored multiple lay-ups and played great man-to-man defense. During the full-court runs, JP was able to knock down threes, score on floaters and get after it defensively. There was a situations where JP had a really great defensive sequence. It happened when he was guarding an offensive player one-on-one. His opponent used a number of hesitation dribbles to get by him with no success. Ultimately, the player had to pass the ball to a teammate. His great footwork and quick reaction time prevented him from getting beat off the dribble. JP also excelled at forcing opponents into mistakes or turnovers. He's an awesome two-way player who's destined to be successful in the game of basketball.
