The Grassroots Season is here! I was back on the road Friday for Day One of the Phenom Hoops Grassroots Tip Off Classic in Rock Hill, South Carolina. It was a light opening night with just three windows of games, but there was still plenty of talent on display and several prospects to check in with. These five players were the biggest standouts to me from Friday's action:

[player_tooltip player_id='1578651' first='MJ' last='Littlejohn'] headlines my list of Friday Standouts. He did a little bit of everything in Next Level SC's bounceback win over Mint Hill Lakers, tallying 12 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals, and 1 block. MJ had several highlight plays at the rim, including an early front-runner for the dunk of the tournament. Littlejohn is a slashing wing with good positional length and the ability to score off the dribble or spot up on the perimeter.

Singleton was a bright spot in the [program_tooltip program_id='2078521' first='Palmetto' last='City Hurricanes']' loss in the tournament opener. Although the Hurricanes got down big early, Singleton's energy and scoring were a big factor in them getting back into the game. He was even called on with the game on the line, converting an interior score off a BLOB set to send it to overtime. Jamere is very strong in the paint, both on drives and when catching the ball in the post. He will play off two feet, finish through contact, and is a capable outside shooter. He put up 25 points and 6 rebounds on Friday.

[program_tooltip program_id='2078724' first='Carolina' last='Pressure']'s 15U Group is extremely talented and physically gifted, but [player_tooltip player_id='2469364' first='Hunter' last='Collins'] looks to be the most offensively polished of the bunch at this stage. He is long and athletic and makes plays in a variety of ways on both ends of the floor. Hunter is a knockdown outside shooter with a high release that most matchups can't contest. CPB will run offensive sets to get him open, and more often than not, on Friday, he capitalized. Collins is also very active in passing lanes with a good feel for reading the eyes of opposing ball-handlers.

Bryson is one of two new North Carolina 2026s to monitor following Friday at the Phenom Grassroots TOC. He displayed an extremely strong frame but good footwork and a nice handle to go with it. Simpkins was very comfortable making plays for himself and others or catching the ball in the paint and punishing mismatches. Bryson took over in the second half of Tru Elite's Game One win, racking up 16 points, 9 rebounds, and 4 assists.

Kirk rounds out my list of standouts from Day One in Rock Hill. He is a joy to watch with the ball in his hands because he was one of the shiftiest Guards in the gym. Khallile is extremely quick and frequently beats defenders off the dribble. This resulted in paint touches, where he showcased an ability to find teammates with flair or finish around the trees. Kirk fits the mold of a pass-first Point Guard and can be trusted to run the offense. He put up 6 points and 4 assists in a loss.
