What prospects at the Comets Shootout made a strong impression and have us thinking they are better prospects than expected? Here is the list and why.

[player_tooltip player_id='1560865' first='Nolan' last='Myren'] of [program_tooltip program_id='2075672' first='Minnesota' last='Fury'] DeLo (Spring Lake Park). This 6'3 shooting guard can score. And score some more. This year Nolan had 26 against Mounds View, 24 against Anoka, 20 against both Totino-Grace and Champlin Park, and 30 against Rogers. It was a 20 point average for the season and he continued that scoring this past weekend against good teams. Can he shoot it? Yes but... Can he attack you with the quality handle? Yes but.... What Nolen really appeared to do well is read the defense, use his leverage, use his ability to read the defense, and consistently put up points.

[player_tooltip player_id='2119593' first='Lars' last='Osteraas'] of [program_tooltip program_id='2075672' first='Minnesota' last='Fury'] Reyes (St. Thomas Academy). The 6'3 junior has my interest after his clutch defense, three pointer, and late game foul shots led to Reyes knocking off the top Select 17s. Lars had a decent junior season but his clutch play last weekend earned him first team All event honors in St. Cloud and at 6'3/6'4 with the ability to play both guard spots for a team, Lars is one to watch.

[player_tooltip player_id='2381759' first='Reggie' last='Parker'] of Lace Up (Rochester Mayo). Everything about Parker was better than I expected: he was taller than I thought, way stronger than I thought, more agile than I thought, and more productive than expected. At about 6'5/6'6 around the basket Parker gave teams an issue as he was strong enough to guard posts but he boarded well and finished around the rim at a good rate. Had a good year for Mayo and is a name to watch.

[player_tooltip player_id='1560826' first='Joel' last='Saah'] of [program_tooltip program_id='2075685' first='Minnesota' last='Select'] Ohnstad (Park Center). The ball was put in Joel's hands and he did great things with it. I was really impressed with how he ran the Select offense this weekend using his quick first step and fast but smart transition push. I think there is some potential there for Joel to have a good 17u year and really surprise for PC next year.

Jack Welch of [program_tooltip program_id='2076005' first='West' last='Central Wildcats'] (Pelican Rapids). I think big things are coming for Jack. At 6'8 I really like the look of his face-up touch and his ability to score with that touch around the rim. I was caught off guard at how well he faced up and attacked with a dribble or two and he seemed to welcome the contact before getting to the balanced finish. Coming off a great junior season and he held his own against some other quality bigs in this class.

[player_tooltip player_id='2118495' first='Talan' last='Witt'] of Minnesota Comets (Alexandria). There were two Comets players that had me thinking they could be higher level prospects than we originally thought: one was [player_tooltip player_id='2100912' first='Stephen' last='McGee'] who we talked about earlier in the week in the Features article, and [player_tooltip player_id='2118495' first='Talan' last='Witt'], a six foot guard. For starters, Talan's height will work against him in prospect chatter. But what helps him? So many things! For starters, the Comets ran about five lob plays for him this past weekend and most of them succeeded. This is an athletic, explosive combo guard. He can also shoot the ball well from behind the arc which is shown in the 45 percent three point shooting from the varsity season. A quality combo guard option.
