. The 6-foot-8 big man from Dayton was one of the event's top rebounders but he also impressed with his footwork, soft touch on his shot, and his passing. His play certainly caught the attention of the college coaches in attendance, but the truth of the matter was he was already a committed recruit. Rosenberg is headed to Southern California to play his college basketball and he'll be doing so at Pomona-Pitzer.
"I decided that Pomona was the right place for me because I wanted a college where I could challenge myself both academically and athletically," Rosenberg said. "Pomona offers rigorous academics, and I was drawn to its beautiful campus. I also really like the coach and appreciated the strength of the basketball program, which consistently competes for league titles."
Size is at a premium at the D-III level and that's something Rosenberg will certainly give the Sagehens. There's no doubt that the jump from 3A to the college level is a big one so the Dayton senior knows there's still work to do.
"I think I'll fit in well with their style of play by using my size to score around the basket and create opportunities for teammates through passing," Rosenberg said. "I'm also focused on improving my shooting to become a more well-rounded offensive player next year."
Rosenberg started his high school career at McMinnville where he teamed with twin brother Walt, but made the move to Dayton for his junior and senior seasons where this past year he averaged over 20 points and 10 rebounds per game, earning PacWest Player of the Year and 3A First Team All-State honors. It was a memorable time with the Pirates, one that he'll never forget.
"On the court, what I'll remember most is how much our team improved throughout the year," Rosenberg said. "Both of my years at Dayton came with their fair share of ups and downs but I felt that our team always played our best basketball at the end of the year. Off the court, the friendships I've built throughout high school are what will stick with me the most."
Our congratulations go out to Rosenberg and his family on his commitment.
