Pee Dee Academy had the distinction of being one of two schools on hand that had both its girls and boys teams vying for state glory (Curtis Baptist in the 1A realm) was the other. With wins against Calhoun Academy and Spartanburg Day, the Golden Eagles earned the right to compete in the final SCISA basketball matchup of the season.

Also earning that right to compete in the final SCISA hoops contest of the season was Hilton Head Prep – a team that only dropped two games against in-state teams in John Paul II and Bluffton. Following a quarterfinal win over Florence Christian and a semifinal victory over Orangeburg Prep, the Dolphins were one of the last two standing in SCISA 3A.

Records

When the story of Hilton Head Prep's 2024-25 is written told, it will mention the 24-4 record, the 6-0 region record and the 3A championship. That same story will tell of a runner-up season for Pee Dee Academy in addition to a 17-6 overall mark and a region showing of 7-1.

Quarter-By-Quarter

Earlier that day, Pee Dee Academy's girls team claimed a 3A state championship after a thrilling win over Orangeburg Prep. The Eagles boys assembling were looking to duplicate the feat of its women counterparts. Hilton Head Prep had other ideas through one, but Pee Dee Academy was evenly matched with the Dolphins through one. Eight minutes would see Hilton Head Prep ahead by the slimmest of margins – 10-9.

Hilton Head Prep went full Hilton Head Prep in the second quarter. The Dolphins began the frame with a 13-0 run which was only snapped by a Pee Dee Academy layup late in the frame. As halftime arrived, the Dolphins would lead the Eagles by a score of 23-11.

The Dolphins continued to pour it on Pee Dee Academy in the third quarter, outscoring the Eagles by a margin of 14-2. Hilton Head Academy, leading 37-13 after three frames was eight minutes away from the final SCISA basketball championship of 2024-25.

Hilton Head Academy could not have scored any points in the fourth quarter – and it would have been enough for the victory. The final SCISA basketball championship of 2024-25 would be bestowed upon the Dolphins.
