Brooks School traveled to Governor's Academy on Wednesday, February 12th for an ISL matchup. A back and forth game eventually ended in a 61-53 win for Brooks. Below are my standouts from the game.

Wilkins started off the game slowly, but boy did he turn it around in the second half. He showed a remarkable ability to score from all three levels; he can shoot it from three (he took a few VERY deep ones), he can get to his spots in the mid range, and he can use his size, length and athleticism to finish at the rim. He's an incredibly smooth ball handler who has a certain silkiness to his creation game. Change of speed, misdirections – he has it all. He'll be an interesting piece at Furman next year, and some added weight would do him quite well.

Ferdinando continues to impress me more and more every time I see him play. He plays the game the right way and really understands spacing and movement at a level that few high school players do. We know he can stroke it from three, but he moves so well without the ball and is just a great cutter. He's also continued to improve his on-ball chops and has really solid vision. Whether he's a point guard or off-ball guard at Babson next year, he'll make his coach very happy with his ability to move without the ball, space the floor, and attack closeouts. Does all of the little things offensively.

Davis started out Wednesday's game with four straight three pointers for Brooks in the first dozen possessions of the game. The lefty does a great job coming off screens and has a pretty quick trigger once he gets the rock. He also had a really nice step back move, showcasing the ability to get his shot off with the ball in his hands. Other than his shooting, Davis is a steadying force for Brooks and never tries to do too much offensively. Defensively, he's active with his hands and slides his feet well.

Wertz does all of the little things on both ends of the floor. He almost never takes more than two or three dribbles with the ball in his hands; instead, he makes quick decisions and always knows what he's going to do with the rock before it's swung to him. He can make the open three, he can make pull-up jumpers when the defense overplays him, and he's a very willing passer. I love the way he attacks closeouts and never wastes any time getting to his spots – these skills will allow him to fit seamlessly into any offense. Defensively, Wertz can guard multiple positions and is a big time athlete.

Christensen is a 6-foot-8 big who's light on his feet and very coordinated for his size. He showed the ability to step out and knock down the three, but he's most impressive as an offensive hub at the top of the key, where he sets really good screens and is a great passer. He didn't spend too much time in the post, but he has some decent footwork and uses his body well when he's down there. Defensively, he's tough and strong and does very well on the boards. The Johns Hopkins commit has a college ready body right now and his passing will be appreciated at the next level.

Walker controls the paint for Brooks, and when he goes to the bench they really struggle to rebound and defend. He's quite active on the offensive and defensive glasses and has the ability to finish athletically when he gets the ball down there. The rest of his offensive game is still coming along, but he has another year to put it all together, and he's already got the physical tools needed to play at the next level. Some improvements to his skill set – mainly shooting and creation/ball handling – would probably land him some scholarship offers.
