On February 24th I watched the 6A Round-1 playoff game with #15 Mesa Mountain View hosting #18 Chandler.

It was a slow paced defensive battle from the jump. Only 10-10 after the 1st and 19-19 at halftime. Neither team could really find their footing.

The 3rd quarter started and the home team finally got some space with a 31-26 lead heading into the 4th quarter.

Just when you thought MTV would put them away, [player_tooltip player_id='1445948' first='Brandon' last='Stapleton'] got hot and hit three straight 3's to give Chandler a 39-37 lead with 1:08 to play. Then [player_tooltip player_id='1483891' first='Jackson' last='Woolley'] drove it and got fouled and made both to tie it up at 39-all with 57 seconds left. After turnovers on both sides of the ball, Woolley called game with a clutch-3 with two seconds left. Chandler never got a shot off and MTV held on to win 42-39. They will play #2 ranked Liberty tonight.

Here were the standouts

[player_tooltip player_id='1483891' first='Jackson' last='Woolley'] Mesa Mountain View (Pictured right)

A bigger guard who plays on or off the ball. He will score with rip thrus, transition buckets with good body control, back door cuts and he hit the biggest shot of the year for their team with two seconds left. He rose up with nice elevation and hit a three with some range and confidence. He will also collect steals and even block shots. He scored 14 points.

[player_tooltip player_id='2249637' first='Bryson' last='Gundry'] Mesa Mountain View (Pictured left)

Gundry has been having a breakout season and it continued versus Chandler. He scored 10 points in a very low scoring game. He is crafty to score with layups in transition, he runs the court well, he can also pull-up from mid off the dibble and he is a knockdown catch three point shooter. That is where he makes his money--his shooting.

[player_tooltip player_id='2146266' first='Douglas' last='Sweatt'] Mesa Mountain View

A quick on quick defensive point guard. He can collect a steal and race down the other end and euro to the basket to score or get fouled. He sees the court well to throw the dime and he will score the catch three when he is in rhythm. He scored 7 points.

[player_tooltip player_id='2298362' first='Bradley' last='Dyer'] Mesa Mountain View

A wing forward who only scored two points with a transition bucket running the floor but his presence was felt. He collects steals and plays the game with an incredible motor to defend. He moves his feet quickly on the perimeter and rebounds well.

[player_tooltip player_id='2134291' first='Ty' last='Denham'] Mesa Mountain View

A scoring wing forward who rebounds well in his area. He uses his size, effort and length to box out and corral the ball. He scores with runners and put backs moving without the ball. He scored 4 points.

[player_tooltip player_id='1445948' first='Brandon' last='Stapleton'] Chandler

A bigger combo guard or point forward type almost willed his team to victory when they were down in the fourth quarter. He rattled in three triples from the top of the key and the lefty sized his defenders up on each one. He demanded the ball and caught fire. He will also score getting downhill with and-1's taking contact well. He rebounds at a good clip and will make a play for a teammate. He scored 18 points leading all scorers.

[player_tooltip player_id='2423942' first='Apollo' last='Jennings'] Chandler

Another breakout player in 6A is [player_tooltip player_id='2423942' first='Apollo' last='Jennings']. He will score with rip thrus to the basket using some weight and strength. He can drop step and scores it efficiently near the hoop. He gets to the free throw line and he was a problem for the Wolves the second he checked in. He scored 12 points with two blocks.

[player_tooltip player_id='2552733' first='Donovan' last='Palmer'] Chandler

The freshman big man is long, agile and is a defensive menace. He did not score in the game but the Toros knew he was in the paint. He altered or blocked multiple shots with great timing and grabbed a bunch of rebounds.
