Friday, January 15th I attended the 2A match-up of #2 in 2A San Tan Charter traveling to Gilbert to take on #32 in 2A Leading Edge Academy.

From start to finish San Tan showed off and showed why they are one of the favorites to win it all in the small school OPEN with a 104-39 win.

I checked out the JV and Varsity.

Here were the standouts

Junior Varsity Game (69-48 San Tan Charter won)

[player_tooltip player_id='2297437' first='Dylan' last='Vargas'] San Tan Charter

A highly skilled and cerebral power forward. He will score with offensive rebound put backs, he has good hands to catch tough passes in traffic and will score with mid-range jumpers. He can dunk it easily and he will cut to the hoop without the ball. He is a great passer from the high post and will block shots and rebound at a high level. He scored 21 points with 10+ rebounds.

[player_tooltip player_id='2552773' first='Davis' last='Mason'] San Tan Charter

A scoring combo guard with a high feel for the game. He made some impressive live dribble pocket and bail out passes and will drive and kick it to a teammate. He scores with polished euro steps, layups in traffic and threes off the catch. He is a plus rebounder and collects steals. He scored 14 points on JV and also 4 points on varsity.

[player_tooltip player_id='2625965' first='Kaii' last='Voogd'] San Tan Charter

A wing forward is a natural scorer from all levels and will pick the pockets of the opposing guards. He rebounds well in and out of his area and he will attack the basket and spin off of his defenders. He plays off of two-feet and will jump stop and rise up from mid-range. He has a nice crossover to gain a little separation and will go baseline to score plus dunk it on the break. He hit a deep three at the buzzer from beyond the volleyball line showing some range. He scored 16 points on JV and 4 points on varsity.

[player_tooltip player_id='2750689' first='Bryce' last='Whiting'] San Tan Charter

A newcomer for me is a defensive minded point guard. He is a plus defender and talks on defense with quick feet, reflexes and hands. He has a sneaky tight handle and will pass it up the court on a rope. He can also pass it with either hand. He scores with quick drives with his left and changes speeds well. He dunks it easily after he steals the ball. He scored 4 points on JV and 2 points on Varsity with multiple steals and assists.

[player_tooltip player_id='2552785' first='Joshua' last='Polk'] San Tan Charter

One of the longest players in the class. He rebounds well with his size and length and passes it up the court and can grab it and go to the basket. He can step out and hit the three and he is a quick second jumper and springs up to rebound. He scored 5 points.

Varsity Game (104-39 San Tan won)

[player_tooltip player_id='1986796' first='Peyton' last='Lubash'] San Tan Charter

One of the top shooters in the class with limitless range. He gets the ball out of his hands so easily. He has legit parking lot range. He will do a quick burst to lay it in with advanced body control. He will pull-up mid-range and ball fake and burst by. His speed on the break stands out and he scored 29 points (5 3's) with multiple assists.

Lubash eclipsed 1,000 career points en route to scoring 29.

[player_tooltip player_id='1986797' first='Jase' last='Benjamin'] San Tan Charter

One of the more impressive athletes pound per pound. He will score thru the contact with his stronger frame with step thrus and longer strides. He tried to poster dunk their big showing off his bounce and had multiple lob dunks. He moves the ball and makes smart reads and grabs a ton of rebounds, steals and blocks. He scored 12 points.

[player_tooltip player_id='1583466' first='Jaelon' last='Germany'] San Tan Charter

A scoring combo guard with good body control with a smooth gait. He takes contact well and scores with catch threes, offensive rebound put backs, dunks, runners and step thrus off the glass. He will hesitate and burst past his defender to score or drop off a perfect dime. He is definitely a better passer then what he gets credited with. He scored 25 points with multiple steals and deflections.

[player_tooltip player_id='1676630' first='Kristo' last='Jackson'] San Tan Charter

An athletic two-way combo guard is a good passer with an unselfish nature. He will make the extra pass, score and defend. He handles the top player on most teams nightly. He rebounds well and scores with euro steps, floaters and gets to the FT line with his speed, power and upper body attacking with his bounce. He scored 9 points with close to 5 steals.

[player_tooltip player_id='1469397' first='Kylen' last='Bonner'] San Tan Charter

A scoring guard has an easy shooting stroke from the three off the catch. He plays perfectly off of their point guards and he is fed in stride with catch and shoot threes and running the lanes for layups on the break. He plays a cerebral brand of ball and the lone senior starter never forces the issue. He scored 13 points.

[player_tooltip player_id='2387517' first='Jachin' last='Reynolds'] San Tan Charter

A hyper athletic power forward has go-go gadget arms to rebound and block shots. He has a super quick second and third jump with great timing to alter or block the shot. He will use his length to grab a ball out of his area and scores the ball inside the paint.

[player_tooltip player_id='2039509' first='Samuel' last='Sutherland'] Leading Edge Academy

A thicker framed guard will defend physically on the ball. He will score with offensive rebound put backs and he is a top notch rebounder. He can score on the break or get to the free throw line. He is their go-to scorer on the perimeter.

[player_tooltip player_id='2750761' first='Cory' last='VanNiekirk'] Leading Edge Academy

A strong framed post player with very long arms and a big base. He rebounds well and will score with offensive rebound put backs. He will ball fake and rip thru for layups with either hand and even shoot it from mid-range. He scored 19 points with close to 10 rebounds.
