On Jan 8th I attended the 5A match-up of two undefeated teams in the AIA with Ironwood traveling to Scottsdale to take on Notre Dame Prep.

I checked out all three levels with Freshman, JV and varsity.

Here were the standouts on the night

Freshman Game (70-63 NDP won)

[player_tooltip player_id='2724507' first='Preston' last='Bauer'] Notre Dame Prep

A natural scorer from all levels who is a true combo guard who can score and facilitate. He scores with mid-range pull-ups off the dribble, hesitates to get a step on his defender and will score with step thrus to get to the basket. He has quick hands on defense which led to points and he is a sneaky good passer. He unofficially scored 25 points.

[player_tooltip player_id='2560318' first='Jack' last='Bauer'] Notre Dame Prep

A bigger sized scoring guard is very skilled. He will catch and shoot from the three point line, cut off the ball and he can rip thru and go to work. He rebounds well in his area and brings some energy to the court. He unofficially scored 5 points.

[player_tooltip player_id='2724508' first='Jackson' last='Warner'] Notre Dame Prep

A long and lean scoring guard is another skilled guard. He has a good looking stroke from the three point line with a high arcing stroke. He will make off balanced shots in traffic with a decent handle to get past his defenders. He unofficially scored 8 points.

[player_tooltip player_id='2724509' first='Jonah' last='Brumbaugh'] Notre Dame Prep

A combo guard who has a pure stroke off the dribble from the three point line. He also loves the floater game and will drive and kick it to make a play. He is small but he is quick and scrappy on the ball defensively. He unofficially scored 10 points.

[player_tooltip player_id='2471533' first='Jake' last='Grossman'] Notre Dame Prep

A decent sized scoring point guard is a good three point shooter like the old school Larry Bird from the side of his body. He will dribble drive in traffic and score and makes smart reads. He unofficially scored 5 points.

[player_tooltip player_id='2724510' first='Xavier' last='Schroepfer'] Notre Dame Prep

The specialist of the talented freshman team is Xavier. The lefty has a nice shooting stroke from the three point line and can catch fire quickly. He will make the extra pass with an unselfish nature but he helps the team off the bench with his shooting skill. He unofficially scored 9 points.

[player_tooltip player_id='2724511' first='Cole' last='Meurer'] Ironwood

A bigger sized lefty scoring guard is a long strider to the basket. He is a good passer with a plus feel for the game. He has a nice euro step in the lane to score and will pull-up off the dribble from mid to the three. He is very patient in the paint to score around traffic. He unofficially scored 23 points.

[player_tooltip player_id='2724517' first='Giuseppe' last='Verga'] Ironwood

An athletic power forward is a physical player who is very fluid and has some bounce. He scores with and-1's in traffic. He has great hands and will seal his defender and go to work. He unofficially scored 13 points.

Junior Varsity Game (68-45 Ironwood won)

[player_tooltip player_id='2724518' first='Kameron' last='Head-Holbrook'] Ironwood

A strong framed shooting guard scores with runners and floaters in his game with mostly his left hand. He is good in transition to score but he will also find teammates. He rebounds well with his length and athleticism. He unofficially scored 6 points.

[player_tooltip player_id='2314614' first='Powell' last='Perkins'] Notre Dame Prep

A fluid power forward moves well and will block and rebound at a good clip. He keeps the ball high and outlets the ball well. He will slip off of a pick and roll and finish in the lane with his size and brawn and has good body control with nice hands to finish. His size and presence on defense is currently his strong suit. He unofficially scored 4 points.

Varsity Game (74-54 Ironwood won)

[player_tooltip player_id='1354953' first='I'yar' last='Shadowvine'] Ironwood

The engine of the team set the tone early with three big threes off the dribble with a quick release. When he gets hot, he is very tough to defend. He can drive and kick and find a teammate. He will also score slick layups getting past his defenders with his speed. He unofficially scored 15 points.

[player_tooltip player_id='2146239' first='Carsyn' last='Dean'] Ironwood

A bigger scoring guard is locking in on defense more and more. He is long and comes with some twitch and quicker feet. He scores with catch and shoot threes off the catch and will jab step and rise up. He is just scratching the surface. He unofficially scored 7 points.

[player_tooltip player_id='1680908' first='Cayden' last='Wetsel'] Ironwood

A thicker framed wing forward got the start and played well. He rebounds well and will score. He likes getting downhill with scoring and-1's thru contact and will catch and shoot from the three point line. He unofficially scored 11 points.

[player_tooltip player_id='1680907' first='Josh' last='Dillard'] Ironwood

A high motored wing forward is a top notch rebounder in and out of his area. Josh got hot from the three and hit three in a row to take a close game into a nice lead in the third quarter and beginning of 4th. He got to the FT line and his activity was almost contagious with toughness. He unofficially scored 15 points.

[player_tooltip player_id='2475896' first='Landon' last='Brownstein'] Ironwood

A senior guard is a quick lefty scoring guard who can score. The lefty can get to the basket with quick bursts and shoot it from the three point line. His skill and toughnesss are felt every game. He unofficially scored 8 points.

[player_tooltip player_id='1571923' first='Koreon' last='Head-Holbrook'] Ironwood

An athletic scoring guard loves getting downhill thru contact with a nice first step to beat his defender to the basket. He will get downhill in traffic thru contact and rebounds well in and out of his area. He unofficially scored 13 points.

[player_tooltip player_id='996176' first='Bryce' last='Quinet'] Notre Dame Prep

A bigger scoring lead guard will score from all levels. He posts up any guard and will score thru the contact. He has quick dribble drive and uses the hook shot impressively, floaters and deep threes. He gets to his spots so easily while keeping his dribble alive amidst heavy pressure and will then kiss it off the glass. The defense gravitates to him and will find players open with pocket passes. He unofficially scored 20 points.

[player_tooltip player_id='1491233' first='Will' last='Feagles'] Notre Dame Prep

A hyper athletic shooting guard has a super quick release from the three point line with range. He needs very little space and time. He is a good rebounder in heavy traffic and will go back up to score. He has good body control in the lane and can handle some contact, utilize the floater game and dunk it easily. He unofficially scored 17 points with seven rebounds. He is hearing from colleges for basketball and track and field.

[player_tooltip player_id='2724691' first='Cole' last='Pepe'] Notre Dame Prep

A newcomer for me is becoming their defensive stopper of the team. He rebounds well and blocks shots moving his feet well from end to end. He scores with rip thrus to score in the lane and on the glass. He unofficially scored 4 points.

[player_tooltip player_id='2107122' first='Sami' last='Sibai'] Notre Dame Prep

A pure point guard is almost a throwback. He will drive and kick it to a teammate and he is a good passer off of the pick and roll action. He is tough on the ball defensively and scores with ball fakes and takes it to the basket with a burst. He unofficially scored 4 points.

[player_tooltip player_id='1917869' first='Ethan' last='Sobik'] Notre Dame Prep

The man in the middle for the Saints is their interior presence. He rebounds in and out of his area and will score and-1's in traffic with either hand. He will run the floor well, he walls up on defense and blocks shots. He unofficially scored 4 points.
