Cactus Shadows at Saguaro: Standout Performers

On January 10th, I drove up to Scottsdale to see Saguaro take on Cactus Shadows in a competitive 4A region showdown. Saguaro came into this game with a record of 11-5, and Cactus Shadows came in with a record of 9-4. Both teams have a goal of making the playoffs this year. This game was competitive from start to finish, ending with Cactus Shadows getting the win 63-54! Here were some of the top performers below that stood out this game.        This was my first time seeing him play and I was really impressed with Quinton. He has a good ability to get downhill and runs the court really well in transition. His motor is impressive! He was able to get downhill multiple times while finishing through contact. He's only a sophomore, but his production against Cactus Shadows definitely caught my attention. He showed some solid on-ball defense and crashed the glass well, finishing with 6 rebounds this game.       A spark off the bench for Saguaro, giving them a boost on the offensive end. He has good lift on his mid-range shots and showed his ability to shoot the three-pointer with a quick release. He attacks the rim well in transition and has good elevation on his layups when trying to finish over taller defenders, especially considering he is only 5'9" right now.       A really good on ball defender that kept constant pressure on the offense of Cactus Shadows. He had 3 steals this game.  Has a knack for getting downhill and drawing contact. He went to line 5 times this game.       He got anything he wanted against Saguaro, constantly attacking the rim in both half-court sets and in transition. He's an efficient finisher inside. Plays well off the ball. He also showed he's a capable ball handler, managing to handle the ball well under pressure. He scored from all three levels of the court in this game while also putting on a solid defensive performance. He's a good on-ball defender who can guard positions 1 through 3.     A true point guard! He excels at making the right decisions on the offensive end. He changes speeds well. He made a couple of impressive up the court passes in transition this game. He plays well through contact and confidently attacks the rim. He scores from all three levels. A really good ball handler, he stays composed and does not let the defense speed him up.        Dominated this game from everywhere on the court and had his way inside all game. Showcased some really good footwork inside and good passing out of the post. Has a nice spin move he uses to create space to get inside for an easy lay. I was quite impressed with the way he was able to handle the ball. He even initiated some of the offense bringing the ball up while getting pressured and maintaining his handle.
