Brophy Prep at St. Mary's Standouts

On Wednesday, January 22nd I attended the match-up of 4A St. Mary's hosting 6A Brophy Prep. Both teams most likely will be in the OPEN playoffs and you can see both make some runs.   Brophy freshmen team will attempt to go 18-0.   I checked out all three levels with Freshman, JV and varsity.   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Here were the standouts on the night </h2>   Freshman Game (68-31 Brophy Prep won)   [player_tooltip player_id='2747400' first='Parker' last='Mohrhausert'] Brophy Prep   A taller fluid forward can play inside and out. He will dribble past his defenders and score on put backs plus will step out comfortably and shoot the three. He is a good passer off of the double team with either hand. He will block a shot and walls up without fouling. He scored 8 points.     [player_tooltip player_id='2266384' first='Aiden' last='Williams'] Brophy Prep   A scoring point guard with speed and quickness. He scores with cuts off the ball for buckets, catch and shoot it from the three and he is a confident ball handler to make a play. He will drive and kick it and uses the pick and roll game smartly. He is a quick on-ball defender and will block a shot. His steals often lead to points. He scored 11 points.    [player_tooltip player_id='2694071' first='Brady' last='Powell'] Brophy Prep    A strong power forward is a great rebounder in and out of his area with two-hands and outlets the ball well. He keeps the ball high and he is a quick second jumper to score on put backs. He has good body control on the break and has a couple moves he can utilize inside the paint. He will also dunk it on the break. He scored 18 points.    [player_tooltip player_id='2747422' first='Isaiah' last='Swan'] Brophy Prep    A quick point who is a defensive dynamo. He is very good in the passing lanes to collect steals and get deflections. He is one of the better pocket pickers I have viewed on freshman ball with fast hands and feet and real lateral quickness. He scores with getting downhill and he can take a bump to score. He sees the court well and defends. He scored 5 points.   [player_tooltip player_id='2747424' first='Henry' last='Short'] Brophy Prep   A combo forward can play both positions up front. He has soft hands to catch tough passes and will score it inside. He is a great passer for position and he can make passes at the last minute to his teammates. He scored 7 points.    [player_tooltip player_id='2506453' first='Landon' last='Abrams'] Brophy Prep   A decent sized guard/wing can score and has a good feel to make a play. He will catch and shoot from the three point line with a pretty stroke and will drive by his defender to the basket. He is their stud 6th man of the undefeated roster and would start on most teams in the state. He scored 10 points.    [player_tooltip player_id='2749319' first='Luke' last='Zarob'] St. Mary's   A combo forward who is a great rebounder with long arms and has a nice touch from inside and out. He will rattle in threes off the catch with no hesitation and his mid-range jumper is pure. He scored 10 points. He was definitely one of the bright spots for their team.   Junior Varsity Game (60-27 Brophy Prep won)   [player_tooltip player_id='2297438' first='Oliver' last='Burbach'] Brophy Prep    A scoring combo guard is fast on the break outracing the defense. He has a pretty stroke to shoot from deep off the catch or dribble. He can shoot it from mid-range off the dribble and cuts off the ball for layups. He has real court vision to play on the ball but shoots it so well off of it. He is a known shooter but his passing really stood out. He also rebounds well in his area. He scored 14 points with about 5 assists.    [player_tooltip player_id='1873694' first='Tyrese' last='Holmes'] Brophy Prep   A high motored wing forward works well down low to score with good hands and advanced post footwork. He is good defensively on the ball and gets deflections and steals. He is the ultimate glue player of the team. He scored 6 points.     [player_tooltip player_id='2297439' first='Donovan' last='McNabb'] Brophy Prep   An athletic defensive minded combo guard. He collects steals in bunches and will finish it off on the break with a dunk or lay it in. He is a suffocating on-ball defender and will even block shots. He also sees the court well for assists. He scored 3 points.     [player_tooltip player_id='2507238' first='Julio' last='Hernandez'] St. Mary's   A bigger power forward who rebounds and blocks shots. He talks a lot on defense getting his teammates set up. He can create his own offense with a nice handle for position and keeps the ball high to rebound and sets a strong pick. He can also step out and shoot it from the perimeter and scored 5 points.     [player_tooltip player_id='2506552' first='Elias' last='Deleon'] St. Mary's    A scoring lead guard who can make a play. He will dribble drive and spin off of his defenders to score. He will jump stop and will go up to score. He rebounds well and will score or get fouled. He scored 6 points.    Varsity Game (72-58 Brophy Prep won)   [player_tooltip player_id='1286023' first='Ryan' last='Burbach'] Brophy Prep    A sharp shooting scoring guard was a little off from deep but hit a huge three off the catch in the corner to essentially ice the game. He will drive by with his left hand, step thru to score or euro to the cup. He will collect steals, make plays for others and rebound. He scored 13 points.     [player_tooltip player_id='1381426' first='Luke' last='Wieskamp'] Brophy Prep   A hyper athletic forward is great in transition and will score with alley-oops and dunks, He scores inside with left hand hook shots, rip thrus and will score with offensive rebound put backs. He runs the floor, defends multiple positions and scored 14 points.     [player_tooltip player_id='1490239' first='Daylen' last='Sharper'] Brophy Prep   A strong framed scoring point guard with that inner toughness. He will score with drive by's with his left or right hand using his strong football body. He is a physical defender on the ball and rebounds better then most guards in the entire AIA. He will also collect steals and defend inside the paint when needed. He scored 8 points with many rebounds.       [player_tooltip player_id='1276753' first='Ayden' last='Madi'] Brophy Prep   The senior guard with size is full-go now. He broke out in this game with 17 points. He scores with euro steps, drive by's in the lane. catch threes, and scored with out of area rebounds and reverse layups. He was incredible on the glass on this night. He crashed the board like everything depended on it.   [player_tooltip player_id='1768205' first='Jayden' last='Hughes'] Brophy Prep   A long wing forward is very fluid from end to end. His athleticism is coming big time. He scores with fall aways from mid range, he runs the break with smooth strides and will get on the glass with his bounce, size and length. He scored 7 points and is just scratching the surface.   [player_tooltip player_id='1241538' first='Kai' last='Hogan'] Brophy Prep   A wing forward is a sniper. He will catch and shoot from the three point line with a picture perfect shooting stroke. The ball rotates like it should and rattles in threes from deep. He will block a shot inside and is a good perimeter defender. He scored 9 points.   [player_tooltip player_id='1449361' first='Caspian' last='Jones'] St. Mary's   A combo forward who is highly skilled and strong. He scores with fall away jumpers in the post, mid-range jumpers, pull-up threes and he is a quick second jumper to rebound. He can also catch a bad pass to score and will make a play and drive and kick it to a shooter. He scored 11 points.    [player_tooltip player_id='1694989' first='Brody' last='Postorino'] St. Mary's   A combo guard is a sniper. He can get downhill and score with and-1's in traffic. He can hit the off the catch or pull and has some range from beyond the three point line. He got hot and hit 6 to pace the Knights and keep the game close all night. He will also throw the up the court passes to make a play. He scored 26 points.   [player_tooltip player_id='2223500' first='Noah' last='Ondoua'] St. Mary's   A physical defensive point guard. He pushes the ball up the court and moves the ball to the open teammate. He can score with threes off the catch. He has quick feet and a stronger upper body to defend and will take a charge. He scored 3 points.   [player_tooltip player_id='2194808' first='Carter' last='Bagley'] St. Mary's   A strong wing forward who is highly skilled. He will score layups in traffic, hit the catch three and shoot it with mid-range pull-ups off the dribble. The lone freshman on varsity rebounded well and he scored 7 points.
