It wasn't the smoothest start to the game for Notre Dame signee [player_tooltip player_id='1525663' first='Brady' last='Koehler']. A couple of early turnovers and missed shots plagued the 6'9" star as Crispus Attucks jumped out to a 14-11 advantage after the first quarter. However, Koehler quickly turned it on and took over the game to lead Cathedral to their 71-63 victory. Back-to-back three-point shots got him going in the second quarter and then he really dominated the fourth quarter to secure the victory. Koehler finished with a team-leading 20 points to go along with 10 rebounds, 3 assists, and 5 blocked shots.

Briscoe's Foul Trouble Put Attucks Behind the 8-Ball

There is no denying that [player_tooltip player_id='1297019' first='Dezmon' last='Briscoe']'s early foul trouble was an issue for Crispus Attucks. The future Iowa Hawkeye picked up his second foul on a charging call halfway through the first quarter. Then, another charging violation resulted in his third foul with 1:51 to play in the half. Between sitting on the bench and being conscious not to foul while in the game obviously had an impact on the Tigers' star player. To Briscoe's credit though, he stepped up in the second half and tried to will his team to victory. The 6'9" forward finished with 11 points, all coming in the second half, 6 rebounds, and 3 blocked shots.

IU-South Bend Got a Steal

[player_tooltip player_id='1297004' first='Chris' last='Hurt'] has had an excellent season senior. He stepped up in Briscoe's absence for much of the year and played the role of Attucks' "best player." Now, he is still carrying the playmaking duties while continuing to show off his growth as a three-point shooter. The IU-South Bend signee scored 20 points while dishing out 6 assists in the 71-63 loss to Cathedral on Monday night and averages a team-leading 15.6 points and 5.3 assists on the season.

Role Players Shine for Cathedral

Senior guard [player_tooltip player_id='1297083' first='Lebron' last='Gough'] played an excellent game for the Fighting Irish finishing with 9 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 steals. His quickness, ball handling, and playmaking ability all came up big for Cathedral in the win.

Per usual, [player_tooltip player_id='1561135' first='Keaton' last='Aldridge Jr'] did a lot of the dirty work for Cathedral. He is always involved in the rebounding efforts, is an excellent passer, and bullies his way to the basket with the best of them. The lefty junior wing scored 10 points and pulled down 7 rebounds.

Senior guard [player_tooltip player_id='1297015' first='Deric' last='Cannady'] also scored 9 points in Cathedral's win. He knocked down two big three-point shots early in the game and helped ice it at the free throw line in the end. Both Cannady and Gough had multiple small college coaches in attendance to watch them on Monday night.

Get Ready for the Rematch

We will most likely get a chance to watch these two teams go at it when the stakes are even higher in the post season. Now that Cathedral and Crispus Attucks have dropped down to Class 3A that will participate in the same Sectional, Sectional 26, this season. Regardless of the draw, it is likely to be a collision course, similar to the city tournament, for the Fighting Irish and Tigers to match up once again.
