Here's an in depth breakdown of the top ten players in this stacked 2028 class that seems to keep growing by the day. We built this top 100 from scratch and have spent countless hours evaluating, watching film and AAU games to come up with lists and names of prospects. The top 20 players in this list have already had huge impacts on their respective schools and by March we could see that number growing to close to 30.

-[player_tooltip player_id='2194651' first='Kameron' last='Mercer'] is not only the top freshman in West Virginia but also regarded by many as the best freshman in the United States by our publication. Most recently Mercer was offered by Ohio State back in July after an impressive year with All Ohio Red EYBL. Kam is an imposing 6'5" guard who can play either guard slot or wing and is absolutely dazzling with the ball. Pure speed and power going downhill at the hoop most times.

-[player_tooltip player_id='2395981' first='Jacari' last='Goode'] has had one of the best freshman stories to be wrote this year. Taking over the floor general duties from two graduates and assuming that role plus relying on his relentless on ball defense, Goode has led St Albans amidst another rebuild and reboot and helped the program post impressive wins. A crafty offensive threat and most notably high level vision and ability to get paint touches and distribute. Goode has offers from Illinois St and the famed Fork Union Military Academy in hand and getting a rash of other interest.

-[player_tooltip player_id='2734710' first='Keaton' last='Terry'] is probably good enough to be in that number two spot but we haven't seen quite enough film yet and having not seeing him in person gave us pause. However, seeing him a couple times on film/stream, we were absolutely blown away for a freshman. Terry is one of the most fundamentally sound and footwork sound post players in WV if not the best in any class. Again, that was based off of two sets of film but we came away so impressed its undeniable how talented he is and his being projected as at least a high level D2 prospect at this time.

-[player_tooltip player_id='2425394' first='Eli' last='Sexton'] has been a steady force for defending AAA Shady Spring. Shady who has incredible guard play already, uses Sexton like a starter and depends heavily on his skill and decision making. Sexton does a remarkable job keeping the offense flowing and using his scoring opportunities at appropriate times. With skill and experience being heavy on his side at a young age, Eli can certainly have a next level projection this early.

-[player_tooltip player_id='2464880' first='Mydan' last='Oglesby'] has been one of the most pleasant surprises for many. I don't think he was expected by many to have this large of an impact on the very talented and already experienced Winfield Generals program, but here we are. If you look at Oglesby's stat lines game to game its easy to see he simply fills in the gaps where needed, flows the offense through himself and defends well enough on the defensive end to have a huge impact on every game. His scoring is what we are most pleasantly surprised with as he's found creative ways to score off the bounce as well as be efficient from outside. Undoubtedly Mydan has a chance at a next level projection with his skill level this high so early on in his career.

-[player_tooltip player_id='2395983' first='Dominic' last='Sprouse'] is one player who it seems has taken full advantage of every single opportunity he's been given. High praise from his head coach on his scholar like approach to learning every facet of the George Washington program, Sprouse wasn't gonna be denied the opportunity at a varsity level at one of WV's top AAAA programs. Already grown to 6'2", Sprouse could grown into one of the state's top prospect shooting guards with size and high percentage shooting ability.

-[player_tooltip player_id='2395988' first='Ayden' last='Spence'] is one of the top freshman we discovered early on after his 8th grade season. Spence like the above mentioned Sprouse is one that could easily grow into a college prospect by his sophomore year due to size and skill so early on. Spence has already cracked into some meaningful varsity time for Cabell Midland who's absolutely stacked with guard/wing talent. Look for Spence to have some big games down the stretch for C-M heading into March.

-[player_tooltip player_id='2444028' first='Broc' last='Johnson'] as regarded by many as the state's top freshman other than Mercer at 1. His long 6'4" frame with guard like skills has been a matchup problem for many opponents and led folks to believe he will be a high level player in WV sooner than later. Johnson has recently started to be one of his squad's scoring leaders but he's most admired for his skills with ball handling and passing as well as just plain simple basketball IQ. It's always fun when kids like this pop up in schools with great basketball tradition and Johnson is certainly on track to be a special prospect and very soon.

-[player_tooltip player_id='2694392' first='Lucas' last='Lambert'] is Logan's secret weapon (not really) but not for long. Lambert has been nothing but spectacular scoring especially from deep. Lambert has a solid 6'2" frame that says he can post you up when necessary but also a gun slinger from deep who is deadly when left open. Averaging around 20ppg, which is crazy for a freshman considering Logan's schedule, Lambert has put himself squarely on the watchlist for many college programs for the next few years.

-[player_tooltip player_id='2488808' first='Kingston' last='Smith'] is another George Washington freshman who's seen considerable varsity time against some of the state's best. Smith is cool and smooth with the ball and nobody would dispute that. He has a basketball IQ that's far bigger than his age and a skill set that most upper classmen have yet to obtain. With his introduction to high school basketball being on WV's highest level and him handling it like a veteran, Smith will transform himself very quickly into a player to be coveted by many college programs.
