On Thursday, December 12th I attended the match-up of 6A Tucson traveling all the way to 6A Bash. Both teams came in at 6-0 and most likely will be in the 6A playoffs. Basha definitely has OPEN aspirations and played like it tonight. Tucson will have some good power points despite the loss by challenging themselves. They also recently upset Mesa the previous week.

I checked out three levels with Freshman, JV and Varsity.

Here were the standouts on the night

Freshman Game (Basha won)

[player_tooltip player_id='2692796' first='Ezra' last='Sander'] Basha

A big post player with great size and girth to bang with anyone. He has very good hands to rebound and sets massive picks and will roll to the basket. He will score with offensive rebound put backs with big hands and feet. If he is close to the basket, he will score it. He is mostly a throw back post player near the hoop.

[player_tooltip player_id='2692801' first='Tommy' last='Sorenson'] Basha

A highly skilled scoring guard is a catch and shoot three point sniper. He has a nice looking stroke with perfect ball rotation. He is a good extra passer with a high IQ and has long arms to rebound and will go up and attack the ball. He will also catch tough passes in the paint to score.

[player_tooltip player_id='2692800' first='Jayden' last='Wong'] Basha

A true combo guard who can score and facilitate. He will get downhill to score with euro steps, off the dribble pull-ups and he is very calm in the paint and he uses his handle to get to the basket. He is a good passer and surprisingly just started playing the game just two years ago.

[player_tooltip player_id='2506448' first='Josiah' last='Noriega'] Tucson

A long and lean combo guard can score and make plays for his teammates. He is a good passer with touch passes and drive and kicks. He scores in transition, off the dribble threes, mid-range pull-ups and quick bursts with either hand.

[player_tooltip player_id='2692794' first='Chris' last='Allen'] Tucson

A pure point guard is also very quick on defense. He has a fluid handle and he is a good passer who gets it. He sees the court quickly with advanced court vision and will often drive and kick it. He scores with a burst getting downhill and he will hit the occasional perimeter jumper.

[player_tooltip player_id='2692909' first='Jose' last='Iriquis'] Tucson

A long forward with good size who moves very fluidly. He plays like a point forward type and sees the court well. He can hit the three and score inside. He makes his money on defense with rebounding and blocking a ton of shots.

Junior Varsity Game (Basha won)

[player_tooltip player_id='2692866' first='Ace' last='McKinley'] Basha

A long armed combo guard moves well from end to end. He will score with mid-range jumpers off of a ball fake and makes passes with either hand. He rebounds well as he springs up and will push it up the court quickly. His euro step is polished and uses his length and quick feet to play the passing lanes to rip some pockets. He has an all-around game and he will be on varsity sooner rather then later.

[player_tooltip player_id='2692907' first='Carson' last='Harris'] Basha

A pure point guard who reads the court quickly. He will make passes with his left or right hand. He is very calm and poised with the ball and he is a top notch on-ball defender with real lateral quickness and speed. He will score from inside with layups and on the perimeter.

[player_tooltip player_id='2552796' first='Trent' last='Geinitz'] Basha

An undersized highly skilled power forward. The lefty has advanced post footwork with counter moves. He rebounds well in his area with good positioning and he is a phenomenal outlet passer. He plays a cerebral and physical game with good hands and feet.

[player_tooltip player_id='2320420' first='Blake' last='Roberts'] Basha

A thicker framed power forward rebounds well in his area. He scores with drop step moves after he seals his defender in the paint and he can face-up to the elbow and in. He will score thru contact and brings a physical brand of ball to the court.

[player_tooltip player_id='2506445' first='Traveon' last='Banks'] Tucson

A super defensive point guard has a quick burst to get to the basket. He will blow past his opponents and dime his teammates in stride. He unfortunately had a very bad fall in the first quarter and was not fully able to play again. He is definitely one to watch in Tucson.

Varsity Game (74-42 Basha won)

[player_tooltip player_id='1323290' first='Mason' last='Magee'] Basha

Magee showed off his full arsenal versus Tucson. He scored with blow by takes, threes, dunks, downhill with elite body control and around the basket with contact. He can take it coast to coast as he will glide in the air gracefully. His advanced court vision and pinpoint passing separate him from many. He scored 19 points with many assists.

[player_tooltip player_id='2249943' first='Lleyton' last='Leonard'] Basha

The long freshman continued to show why he will be a stock riser. He moves really well from end to end with a plus wingspan to steal the ball, block shots and rebound at a very high rate bringing a big time motor with him. He sores with effortless dunks way above the rim and seems to outrace anyone. He has a nice mid-range jumper, he will rip thru with long strides and smartly moves without the ball. He scored 20 points.

[player_tooltip player_id='2276223' first='Kingston' last='Montague'] Basha

A scoring lead guard can play on or off the ball. He is a very underrated passer and will drive and kick it perfectly and throws the lob pass well. He shoots the three and has a tough pull-up off the dribble from mid-range. He scored 8 points with multiple assists.

[player_tooltip player_id='1366582' first='Cullen' last='Schreiner'] Basha

A bigger sized forward plays the 3-5 for the Bears. He rebounds well in his area and will shoot it with a picture perfect stroke. He will catch and shoot or give a hard ball fake into a three. He scored 6 points.

[player_tooltip player_id='1679291' first='Drew' last='Alexander'] Basha

A good showing for the senior guard. He is a very athletic defender to collect steals and rebound. He will score with alley-oop dunks, he will euro step to the basket and crossover into a pull-up. He is very good in transition and scored 9 points.

[player_tooltip player_id='2404559' first='Malaki' last='Cunningham-Hiadzi'] Tucson

One of the bright spots for Tucson was Malaki. He did most of his work in the first half with tough takes inside the paint scoring thru contact. He uses his left hand, good ball handling and toughness. He will rebound at a high rate and blocks shots in his area.
