Gonzaga Prep has been dealing with some key injuries this season and has been incredibly reliant on some fantastic guard play in order to get out to a 4-1 start. Howell has really shined early on with his quickness and downhill play. He has such good ball/body control when speeding down lanes while giving the defense the impression he could shift and go left or right. He's also a gritty defender who will challenge ballhandlers and can really irritate them with his physical defense and quick hands.

Boone is a solid two-way guard who excels at slicing through defenses to the rim, bursting down lanes, and revving up the pressure on the defensive end. He's a pretty crafty finisher who can play fast with the ball and he does a great job playing up in passing lanes and keeping his feet light to make plays. He's a tone-setter for the Lancers on both ends and should continue to play a big role for them this winter.

Wendell is a key guy for what River Ridge does on the offensive end. He plays with energy and aggression, and does a great job balancing scoring, passing, and knowing when to do which. He drained some big buckets against Timberline in a close game and did a great job creating off the dribble and making something out of nothing.

Vanvoorhis is a leader for the Papermakers because he's able to read and react from any spot, with or without the ball. This allows him to make plays from any spot on the floor, offense or defense, and it has shown up early on with his facilitating and ability to make big stops on the defensive end.

Elston is a pretty prototypical point guard. He can handle the rock, get guys in the right spots, create off the bounce, and defend on the other end. But he also has some zip and can go get a bucket when his team needs one. In their game against Garfield, Elston hit several threes, tough midrange pull-ups, and was able to attack the middle to collapse the defense. He's beefed up some since last season and looks poised to have a strong senior season as one of Eastside Catholic's leaders.
