"The Cardinals finished the 23-24 season with a 18-5 record and a trip to the SoDak16 game where they fell short to Gregory. The Cardinals had an 8-1 record in the Dakota Valley Conference and finished in 2nd place. Our JV team was 11-6 and our ‘C' team was 3-4."   PHD: Who will be your primary ballhandler this year?   "[player_tooltip player_id='1506292' first='Trevon' last='Beckman'] (sr) & [player_tooltip player_id='1559131' first='Trimmier' last='Hanson'] (jr) will handle the primary duties of getting the Cardinals going on the offensive end. Beckman led the team with 4.4 apg and does a great job distributing the ball to his teammates. Hanson will be a 3 rd year starter for the Cardinals who averaged 3.2 apg as a sophomore. He has some of the best individual ball-handling skills that I have coached and gives our coaching staff the luxury to not worry when teams full-court press or junk defend us."   PHD: How did the offseason go for your team/program?   "Our group again played in the Sanford Pentagon league along with the Augustan University & the Corn Belt team camps respectively. Our group spent a lot of time together from lifting weights and attending open gyms together to help revenge our SoDak16 loss from a year ago."   PHD: Who are a few of your top players to look out for?   "Seniors [player_tooltip player_id='1263161' first='Maverick' last='LeBrun'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1506292' first='Trevon' last='Beckman'] along with Junior [player_tooltip player_id='1559131' first='Trimmier' last='Hanson'] will be asked to lead the Cardinals in the upcoming season. All 3 Cardinals will be going into their 3rd year in the starting lineup and each of them were part of post-season All-Conference awards from a year ago. [player_tooltip player_id='1506292' first='Trevon' last='Beckman'] averaged 19.5 ppg and was selected as DVC MVP and 2nd Team Class B All-State a year ago. [player_tooltip player_id='1263161' first='Maverick' last='LeBrun'] averaged 17 ppg along with 8 rpg. [player_tooltip player_id='1559131' first='Trimmier' last='Hanson'] averaged 8.5 ppg a year ago but will be asked to take on a larger scoring role going into the season."   PHD: Who are a couple of up-and-comers to look out for?   "(sr) Jake Kopsas (jr) [player_tooltip player_id='1545639' first='Walker' last='Warwick'] (jr) [player_tooltip player_id='1642569' first='Lincoln' last='LeBrun'] & (so) [player_tooltip player_id='2390625' first='Jaxon' last='Baumberger'] are a few of the reserves from a year ago looking to step into starting roles for the Cardinals this season. Our depth has increased from a year ago which will be a strength for the Cardinals going into the new season."   PHD: Who do you think will be your top interior players?   "(sr) 6'5 [player_tooltip player_id='1263161' first='Maverick' last='LeBrun'] will be asked to be the main interior force for the Cardinals this upcoming season. Maverick continues to grow into his body and bringing back almost a double-double average a season ago, the Cardinals will look for him to continue to grow his game. (jr) 6'3 [player_tooltip player_id='2288945' first='Peyton' last='Lamb'] & (so) 6'4 [player_tooltip player_id='2390625' first='Jaxon' last='Baumberger'] will be looked upon to add additional interior presences for the Cardinals this season as they were primary reasons for JV success a year ago."   PHD: What are 2 or 3 goals for the team this year?   "The Cardinals look to build on our team's success from a year ago. We have finished in 2nd place in the DVC over the past 3 season and getting a conference title would be a great accomplishment. It is hard to replicate success or compare teams year after year but coming up one game short of the State Tournament has our group motivated to get to Aberdeen this season. We have a great group of players in the program and we always want to continue to grow our program and growth at the JV level as well."   PHD: Who will be your hardest worker?   "The Cardinals will be Senior lead again this year. Seniors [player_tooltip player_id='1506292' first='Trevon' last='Beckman'] & [player_tooltip player_id='1263161' first='Maverick' last='LeBrun'] are looking to finish their careers off on a high note for the Cardinals and lead by example. We have a lot of kids who put extra time in the summer from open gyms and AAU basketball. Players like [player_tooltip player_id='1545639' first='Walker' last='Warwick'], [player_tooltip player_id='1559131' first='Trimmier' last='Hanson'], [player_tooltip player_id='2288945' first='Peyton' last='Lamb'], & [player_tooltip player_id='1642569' first='Lincoln' last='LeBrun'] all put in countless hours behind the scenes that never go unnoticed on the growth of our team."   PHD: Who are some of the top teams & players in your Region?   "Howard is the returning Class B State Champions and always have great teams year in and year out. Colman-Egan, Chester, and Bridgewater-Emery each return a lot of talent from a year ago. Ethan & Canistota have each been to the Class B State Tournament in recent years and Sanborn Central/Woonsocket is new to the Region and traditionally have great basketball teams. It should be another great year of basketball in South Dakota."   PHD: Any last comments about the upcoming season?   "Class B Region 3 year in and year out produces great teams that always make a run at the end of the season. It will be another great year of Basketball for the Cardinals with hopes of playing our best basketball come MARCH!" "The 24-25 Deuel Cardinals put in the hard work and helped move the program in the right direction. The varsity finished with a season record of 8-13 and Northeast Conference record of 5-5. The Junior Varsity finished 8-9 and gained some great experience for next season. The C Team finished 7-9 and also made some great progress."   PHD: How did the offseason go for your team/program?   "Our focus has been to continue to add skill and put in the time for strength training during the off-season. It's been great to see the progress made in the gym and in the weight room. We had a great summer of hoops playing in team camps and also competitive leagues. We need to take that experience into this season and keep working towards playing our best team ball."   PHD: What style of basketball will your team play?    "We feel this team has the potential to play at a high level when pacing the game offensively and applying solid defensive pressure. This team has prided themselves on their defense and making that our identity. We want to play in space offensively and allow our players to make plays."   PHD: Who are some of the top teams in your Region?
