I was able to see very interesting games this week. There was an impressive 68-40 win for Ypsilanti-Lincoln against Saline. Then there was DeWitt picking up a 52-48 victory over Mason. There was also an entertaining Waterford Mott win against South Lyon. There was a wide array of talent in these games and players in all different classes. We're going to start by looking at the performances of 6 senior stars in these games.

I'll start by saying this - [player_tooltip player_id='2725423' first='Dante' last='Wimberly'] is a college basketball player. His play at the point against Saline just screamed "poised veteran". He simply controlled the pace and the feel of the game from the opening tip. Wimberly instantly turned defense into offense in the game with a quick steal and score. He got the ball into the open floor and made plays from there. Wimberly had a showtime behind the back drive and dump and then used a jump-stop and a pivot foot to find a teammate in a scoring position. He even used a ball fake to move a defender and open a passing lane that led to a bucket. Wimberly never let the ball stick too long by moving it quickly along the perimeter.

Maybe this is more of a star on the rise, but either way, if Larner plays like he did against a good Mason team then star fits the bill. Larner led his team with 15 points, showing the ability to shoot off the catch, but was also balanced and under control enough to pop off and bury a jumper off a dribble handoff. Despite leading his team in scoring, he might have been most impressive with his passing. He connected with a pretty bounce pass for an assist and had another on target post feed for an assist.

Carswell was terrific for Mason this week. He carried his team's scoring load in this game and did it by getting buckets in basically every way possible. Carswell hit a few triples, the most impressive one going over the top of a closing defender. He used a ball fake and wing take to get a bucket. Carswell also finished at the rim and scored in transition. He had a couple nice dimes as well when he fed a teammate for an assist and put the ball in a scoring position as he fell out of bounds.

Remember that college basketball player thing that I said about [player_tooltip player_id='2725423' first='Dante' last='Wimberly'] at the beginning? Insert that here. Menyweathers can play the point at the next level. He has next level pace of play. Menyweathers doesn't just play fast though, he does it with effectiveness. He pushed the pace with both the pass and the dribble against South Lyon. He was an absolute playmaker in this game. Menyweathers had assist after assist in transition, touching paint and delivering to teammates running with him on the wing. He also showed that he could finish and score. Menyweathers had a pretty floater finish that he used a couple of times in the game.

Those of you that have been reading my stuff for a while now are probably very aware that I'm super high on this young man. I think he's one of the best senior post players in the state. Last night cemented that belief. Braun has successfully transitioned his game from a true center to a floor stretching 4. Braun played tough and physical in this game and initiated contact, physically forcing himself to the rim. Braun worked the baseline really well, both inside and out. He shows that power and touch on his finishes when working the baseline. Braun is also a tremendous shooter from behind the arc in the corners, connecting on a couple against Waterford Mott.

Stambaugh has always been one of the more talented guards in his class. He impressed once again in the game against DeWitt. He has an impressive ease of movement and hip control. Stambaugh looked REALLY FAST in this game. He showed top notch straight line quickness with the ball and flaunted some impressive blow by speed when attacking the rim off the bounce. Stambaugh's shooting was on point this game. He came off a down screen for a catch and shoot wing triple and buried another deep 3 off the catch. Stambaugh added another deep 3 from the top.
