"A better season in the fact that we were in more games with a chance to win compared to the previous 5 years in the division that is now called AA. Our problem last season was not getting good looks in our offense but taking advantage of our open looks and making the shots on a consistent basis. We were a young team that lacked experience, since we had graduated 7 seniors from the previous season. Our individual and team defense was not where it needed to be, but throughout the summer we saw some glimpses of the ability to play solid tough defense."   PHD: Who will be your primary ballhandler this year?   "It will be ballhandler by committee. We don't have a standout ballhandler. The guys that will handle the ball are [player_tooltip player_id='2635174' first='Xavier' last='McGorman'], [player_tooltip player_id='2635167' first='Landon' last='Vetter'], [player_tooltip player_id='2635183' first='Carter' last='Breitbach'], [player_tooltip player_id='2635178' first='Sears' last='Wiredu']. I am hoping that if all 4 guys can develop into that role that we can comfortably give a player a break from bringing the ball up against pressure and so they can all play in the shooting guard position."   PHD: How did the offseason go for your team/program?   "I thought that our offseason went very well. We had a good 4-day individual camp in Watford City. We went to 4 team camps, including hosting our own, and generated a list of things that we need to work on as a team. We also came out of the team camps with a winning record, which is big for our squad because wins have been hard to come by in our program for a while. Players worked on individual skills development throughout the summer."   PHD: Who are a few of your top players to look out for? "[player_tooltip player_id='2635183' first='Carter' last='Breitbach'], [player_tooltip player_id='2635185' first='Trysten' last='DeVries'], [player_tooltip player_id='2635292' first='Dominic' last='Latray'], [player_tooltip player_id='2635446' first='Kyle' last='Best']"   PHD: Who do you think will be your top interior players?   "[player_tooltip player_id='2635169' first='Thaydan' last='Arnold']-knowledge of the system, strong, nice touch around the basket."   "[player_tooltip player_id='2635167' first='Landon' last='Vetter']- Can be good in the post for us because of his length and touch around the basket. May have a guard on him that he can post up."   "[player_tooltip player_id='2562022' first='Damitrius' last='Brantley']- Nice shooting touch and is good at finishing around the rim. He will get out and run the floor for a big man and can shoot from behind the arc."   PHD: What are your goals for the year?   "Things that we learned from summer team camps that we need to improve on:"   "1. Defending ball screens. 2. Applying effective pressure on the ball. 3. Defensive transition, slowing down the push of the ball by our opponents. 4. Boxing out and limiting second-chance points. 5. Ballhandling under pressure. 6. Improve our free throw shooting."   PHD: Who will be your hardest worker?   "[player_tooltip player_id='2635185' first='Trysten' last='DeVries'], this kid has a motor. Plays hard and fast all the time. Sacrifices his body to get on the floor for loose balls. Does the little things."   PHD: Who are the top teams & players in Region 4?   "Killdeer returns all their main players.  They were able to get to state last season through the challenge game and ended up in the consolation game at the state tournament. [player_tooltip player_id='1219808' first='Caden' last='Englund'], Shiloh Christian."   PHD: Any last comments about the upcoming season?   "We were a young team last season and still will be a young team, but we now have some experience and will improve throughout the season as the young players continue to develop. We are excited that we will have a deeper bench this season. They just need to get caught up to the speed and physicality of the game at the varsity level. We must work hard every time we step on the floor in season or out of season in games and practice to get to a level that we can compete night in and night out. The players have been in the gym working on their individual game. They are a group of guys that love to play basketball. Most of them are 3 sport athletes, so they are very involved. The guys are easy to coach and fun to be around. They don't have a problem with playing hard. All of them have a no-quit attitude no matter what the outcome. They come to practice every day ready to go hard against each other."
