Lennox Orioles: Season Review

Lennox put together another strong season, finishing 17-6 and coming just one win shy of a trip to the State Tournament. Loaded with talent and athleticism, the Orioles competed at a high level all year and proved once again why they're one of the most consistent programs in the state. "We played a gauntlet of a schedule and it showed as we started off 6-5. We then rattled off 9 straight wins to end the regular season and beat a very good Vermillion team in the Region Semifinals. We ran out of steam in the SoDak 16 against St Thomas More in an overtime loss."   PHD: What are some of your best memories from off the court?   "Seeing how much these guys grew together as a team. The smiles, laughs, and togetherness will always stick out to me during this season."   PHD: Can you talk about a time when you and the team overcame adversity?   "We were down 9 points with 1:40 to go against a very good Sergeant Bluff Luton team and ended up winning. We overcame some offensive struggles, stuck together, and came back to get the win."   PHD: Who was your most improved player?   "[player_tooltip player_id='2078157' first='Aiden' last='Hanssen'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1641163' first='Teegan' last='Musser'] both improved a ton. Aiden grew a lot physically and mentally and learned how to take on some of the best defenders guarding him. Teegan learned how to expand his game on both ends of the floor and became an All-Conference performer by the end of the year."   PHD: Who were a few of your hardest workers? All 3 did stuff that didn't show up on the stat sheet. They boxed out their guys so others could get rebounds, they made the extra pass, and they were also the best teammates."   PHD: Can you talk about your seniors and what will be missed?   "The leadership and charisma that they gave to our team. These guys never had a bad day on the basketball court and the consistency they brought forth will be hard to match."   PHD: Who was your top post player?   "[player_tooltip player_id='2054983' first='Drake' last='Mikkelsen']. He was a willing screener and a great offensive rebounder, which allowed us to get extra possessions."   PHD: Who was your best defensive player?   "[player_tooltip player_id='1641163' first='Teegan' last='Musser']. His length and physicality made it tough for any offensive player to get easy looks. He was also very versatile and could guard any position on the court."   PHD: Were there any memorable buzzer-beaters, upsets, or clutch performances?   "[player_tooltip player_id='2078157' first='Aiden' last='Hanssen'] hit a buzzer beater at home in the regular season against Vermillion. We had also come back from a deficit late in the game for him to hit this shot."   PHD: What lessons from this season go beyond basketball?   "We learned how to stick together when things weren't necessarily going our way. The perseverance we showed after starting 6-5 and winning 11 straight is something to be proud of."   PHD: Can you talk about an assistant coach and how they helped the program?   "Grant Fodness, Trey Manitz, and Kyle Johnston all brought something unique to the program that made our program better. They filled in gaps in coaching that were greatly needed."
