Head Coach: Thad Burgess

Summit struggled last year in Head Coach Thad Burgess's first season at the helm, finishing 9-18, 2-12. District 10 was incredibly tough last year and included two State Tournament teams (Brentwood, Independence). Frankly, D10 could be just as challenging this season. Can Coach Burgess build off of that success in Year Two? Possibly.

[player_tooltip player_id='2634791' first='Joel' last='Coverston'] appears to be a young, high-ceiling guy. "Joel is a sophomore," said Head Coach Thad Burgess. "He is really going to be a surprise in the region. Can score. I think he is going to be one of those guys in the region that people say, 'Who is that guy?'"

Though Jackson Puri is likely to be the team's early season leading scorer a couple of Spartans could surpass him by early spring. Coverston and [player_tooltip player_id='2634800' first='Keenan' last='West'] are tall and stronger in and around the paint than Puri. [player_tooltip player_id='2634789' first='Garrett' last='Anderson'] is probably a year, or more, away from averaging double digits at the varsity level, but he could put up a handful of big scoring nights in 2024-2025.

HC Thad Burgess: What a great night. At least kind of feel like you know where you are going. We are on the stage getting our program to where it needs to be. Jackson, and players like him, have made great strides. Great leaps. We have to learn to win. Everything that we do is not going to matter until we win.

MEDIA: Where is your team this year?
HC Thad Burgess: I think the Indy game gave us a good feel when the season ended. You kind of carry it over. The main thing we felt like is, 'you gotta get bigger and stronger. You have to compete.'

MEDIA: On Puri.
HC Thad Burgess: He has gained 15 pounds. That is amazing. He made a point to get stronger and bigger. I think you will see a different team that is willing to battle. They understand where we are trying to get to. It is just fun. We have gained a little confidence. Mekhi Bell will not be joining us. He is going to be ready for football.

MEDIA: What do you hope to carry into the next season?
HC Thad Burgess: There was only spot that I could think of [to move] and it was Williamson County. To hop in last year and be nervous, to feel like you are a part of it now, I think I can grasp it. Unbelievable players. Unbelievable atmospheres. It has made the whole situation a lot more comfortable. Going to school every day. Being around the people and the faculty.

MEDIA: What is new in your game?
Jackson Puri: Not just standing out on the arc shooting 3's. Being able to get paint touches. Drawing the helpside defenders and kicking the ball out to my teammates for 3's/

MEDIA: Excited to host a tournament in-season?
Jackson Puri: We love the Summit Squad. Any time we can host it is always great for us.

Anticipated starters are: [player_tooltip player_id='2634789' first='Garrett' last='Anderson'], [player_tooltip player_id='2634800' first='Keenan' last='West'], Jackson Puri, [player_tooltip player_id='2634791' first='Joel' last='Coverston'], Kane Ferrer.
