Riverside Hold on in Overtime vs Collins Hill

The first game of the Hoops on the Hill Classic Emmanuel Sullivan Bracket was Riverside High School versus Collins Hill High School of Georgia. The Warriors opened up with a massive first half which included some brilliance from Junior Sebi Boyogeuno. He scored 14 Points in the opened 4:05 of the game as Riverside built a solid lead. As they continued to increase their lead in the second quarter, Boyogueno had more success but [player_tooltip player_id='2554841' first='Huck' last='Flinn'] and Ben Sponaugle chipped in too. However, in the second half, the game began to flip. The Eagles started to have lots of success with their pressures forcing Riverside into tougher shots and more turnovers. Collins Hill chipped away through the half before a well-executed inbound play resulted in a Ruben Borg game-tying layup as time expired in regulation. In the extra period, Boyogueno got back rolling with some trips to the free-throw lines but a floater from Sponagule and key rebounds from Cam Dather helped seal the game down the stretch.

Freshmen Impress in the Rams' Big Win

The final game of the day featured the hosts, Hillcrest, and their 3A opponent Chapman. The Rams led seemingly from the jump, attacking the rim early to earn several trips to the free-throw line and lots of good looks in transition. Seniors Tray Clinkscales and [player_tooltip player_id='2139947' first='Houston' last='Long'] got off to a nice start, helping in a couple of different ways. Some nice work on the offensive glass from Trey Stevens helped end a long scoring drought for the Panthers in the second quarter. The Rams opened up the third quarter with a 15-4 run led by strong play from Freshman [player_tooltip player_id='2630132' first='Kiishawn' last='Farrow'] with 10 Points early in the period. Tristan Smith also knocked down a couple of attempts from behind the arc and [player_tooltip player_id='1420108' first='CJ' last='Durham'] had some athletic plays at the rim. The confidence, shooting, and vision of the Rams' other Freshman Kamden Jones were on display in the fourth quarter as he finished with 7 Points with a pair of nice assists in the comfortable win.

[player_tooltip player_id='2367673' first='Sebi' last='Boyogueno'] (Riverside) - Leading off my list of standouts from Day One of the Hoops on the Hill Classic Emmanuel Sullivan Bracket is [player_tooltip player_id='2367673' first='Sebi' last='Boyogueno']. Sebi was a monster in the first quarter of Riverside's matchup with Collins Hill, putting up 14 Points in the first 4:05 of the game. Boyogueno had lots of success using his strength advantage and decent handle to get past defenders and get to his right hand in the paint. Sebi is well-adjusted to the physical side of the game and rarely shies away from contact. Although he was often looking to score first, Boyogueno did a great job of reading help defenders to find open players under the basket and on the perimeter. He racked up 32 Points and 7 Rebounds in the first-round matchup.

Ben Sponaugle (Riverside) - Ben was a key player for the Warriors in their overtime win over Collins Hill. He made an early three which set up the rest of his game because it made defenses adjust to the threat of his shooting. Ben did a good job of driving closeouts and favors a runner when around the rim. He also had a nice finish through contact in the second half that helped boost the Riverside lead. At 6'4", Sponaugle's length allows him to shoot over defenders and contest shots well. Ben tallied 19 Points in the game.

Tristan Smith (Hillcrest) - The first of two standouts from the home team on Friday night is Tristan Smith. Smith has progressed well over the last year and plays hard night in and night out. He is a knockdown perimeter shooter who provides key spacing from the outside. Tristan stays shot-ready when on the wings and does a good job of attacking quickly when he doesn't catch and shoot. He converted on a deep two and a pair of driving layups to go with his 3 of 6 showing from behind the arc, finishing with 17 Points in the win.

[player_tooltip player_id='2630132' first='Kiishawn' last='Farrow'] (Hillcrest) - Kiishawn was a standout getting the start in his first career High School game. Farrow has good speed with the ball and has strong hands to rip the ball away from defenders with a strong lower half to avoid getting bullied on defense. He got to see minutes playing on and off the ball on Friday and showcased his spot-up shooting ability as well as his ability to make plays for others. Kiishawn has a good feel for finding driving and passing lanes and has good touch on his floaters and short-range jumpers. Farrow impressed with 16 Points, 4 Rebounds, and 3 Assists in the win.

Josiah Moore (Chapman) - Moore was a bright spot for Chapman in their loss to Hillcrest at the Hoops on the Hill Classic. Josiah is a Senior Guard listed at 5'10". He is a good athlete and plays the game physically. He looked to use his speed and strength to get the ball into the paint and finish at the rim. Moore plays bigger than his size at the defensive end and is unafraid of playing through bodies in the paint. Josiah finished with 7 Points in the game.
