High School Spotlight: University Trailblazers

The season is still a month away, but with practices happening, it is the perfect time to start previewing the season. In this series, we will be taking a look at some quick hitters, the top player(s), a potential breakout player, other roster members, and notable games for the upcoming season. For today's spotlight, we take a look at the University Trailblazers. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Quick Hitters</strong></h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:list --> <ul class="wp-block-list"><!-- wp:list-item --> <li>Went 12-13 last season.</li> <!-- /wp:list-item --></ul> <!-- /wp:list --> <!-- wp:list --> <ul class="wp-block-list"><!-- wp:list-item --> <li>Lost to Park Tudor in Sectionals.</li> <!-- /wp:list-item --></ul> <!-- /wp:list --> <!-- wp:list --> <ul class="wp-block-list"><!-- wp:list-item --> <li>Head Coach Justin Blanding returns for his 2nd season as the head coach. 12-13 overall record.</li> <!-- /wp:list-item --></ul> <!-- /wp:list --> <!-- wp:list --> <ul class="wp-block-list"><!-- wp:list-item --> <li>Return a solid core of production and have the talent to improve from a season ago. </li> <!-- /wp:list-item --></ul> <!-- /wp:list --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Top Player: [player_tooltip player_id='2277819' first='Max' last='McComb']</h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>It is always great when your leading scorer returns from the season prior and that is certainly the case with senior shooting guard [player_tooltip player_id='2277819' first='Max' last='McComb'] coming back for one last go around. McComb brings back 12.6 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 2.6 assists per game and will be viewed as the main option for the Trailblazers. The 6'2 shooting guard can really fill up a stat sheet and have some elite athletic ability to be able to create around the basket and display tough finishes. He is a highly skilled player that really came on strong through his junior season and should continue to breakout as a college prospect throughout the rest of this summer.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Potential Breakout Player: [player_tooltip player_id='1282878' first='Blake' last='Gray']</h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>An under-the-radar guy that will step up into a much larger role for this University team is junior guard [player_tooltip player_id='1282878' first='Blake' last='Gray']. His older brother Bryce was one of the top guards for University over the recent years and now it will be Blake's turn to step into those shoes. He brings back a solid 9.9 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 3.9 assists per game and will more-than-likely see those numbers increase even more. Gray is a pure shot creator and maker and brings some shiftiness on and off the ball at a good level.
