Here in NorCal the first week of basketball is filled with scrimmage games. PH NorCal sat in on a couple of scrimmages. Competitive scrimmages allows the coach to evaluate players in real time to fill roster spots, find rotation and role players who'll contribute to the team in different ways. Some scrimmage games are missing starters, footballers who'll play basketball, transfers who are waiting to be cleared, and early season injuries. This was a good opportunity for PH NorCal to see prospects who'll look to make an impression on the coach with their play.

[player_tooltip player_id='2638050' first='Landon' last='Yeargin'] 5'10 2025 Guard, Salesian College Prep: He's a good ball handler, he made a case for himself to be part of Salesians deep bench rotation. He had strong moves going to the basket, finishing drives with both hands, working from the perimeter and in transition. He was an active defender in full court, applying ball pressure, using foot speed, and lateral movement to generated steals, with good passing up court.

[player_tooltip player_id='2509661' first='Ajahni' last='Charles'] 6'5 2026 Forward/Wing, Bishop O'Dowd: He's a long body prospect with a good upside to his game. In our view he's still developing his overall skill set. He'll be a key player on this team. At 6'5 he's active in and around the post area on both ends. He's going to get rebounds, score tough buckets in the paint, and defend the other teams post players. He hustles to fill lanes in transition.

[player_tooltip player_id='2352694' first='Elijah' last='Stanley'] 6'3 2027 Guard; Salesian College Prep: He's a rising prospect in the 2027 class. He has speed, quickness and handles to generate buckets in transition and along the perimeter with ball or making cuts without it to finish at the rim, he'll pull up for paint and mid-range jumpers. He'll use speed, quick hands, and lengthy arms to disrupt on defense.

[player_tooltip player_id='2024596' first='Chris' last='Jackson'] 5'8 2025 Point Guard, Bishop O'Dowd: The Senior guard plays with a chip on his shoulders. He's aggressive with the ball in his possession pushing hard in transition, attacking along the perimeter from different angles, using quick crossovers, and splitting defenders to get into the paint. He'll slow things down to run the offense in half-court.

[player_tooltip player_id='2089500' first='Leon' last='Powe III'] 6'5 2026 Guard/Forward/Wing, Salesian College Prep: All indications are Powe is on the verge of a breakout season. He's long, tough minded with a skill set that allows him to be effective from different areas on the court. He showed good ball handling up top, he was aggressive using his dribble along the perimeter to drive to the basket. He knocked down open 3's. He'll help rebound and defend multiple positions.

[player_tooltip player_id='2510632' first='Avery' last='Loftus'] 6'4 2025 Wing/Forward, Bishop O'Dowd: He seems to have found a way to be a contributor coming into his Senior season. Standing 6'4 he's active scrapping for rebounds. He's a ball mover, makes himself available with hand up, and hard cuts across the lane for paint points. He works the baseline using a dribble to get closer, or sets himself for catch corner 3's.
