LAS VEGAS — The Border League has established itself as the premier fall high school/prep school basketball event on the west coast and the 2024 edition was no different. The event features many of the top high school and prep school prospects from around the country in a high level hoops showcase. We were in attendance at Coronado and Desert Pines high schools over the weekend and below are the best spot-up shooters we saw.

[player_tooltip player_id='1301788' first='Dante' last='Allen'] | Montverde Academy (FL)

Allen has to play a little bit of point guard for Montverde but his best attribute is his ability to knock down off-catch three's with multiple spot and deep range consistency. The strong-framed combo guard has a strong base, balanced shooting form and a quick snap of the wrist on his release.

John Southwick | Utah Prep

If given time and space, Southwick can fill up the scoring column from behind-the-arc. The 6-foot-3 shooting guard is an elite off-catch shooter but he's also a great mover without the ball and his ability to plant, turn, elevate and get square to the basket will allow him to be an impact shooter at the next level quickly.

Leroy Kelly IV | Dynamic Prep (TX)

In the game we watched, Kelly knocked down five of his seven three-point attempts and his combination of fluid shooting mechanics, elite elevation and deep range made him a player that opponents were force to run off of the line. Kelly also showed some rhythm shooting ability off the bounce with quick elevation and an even quicker trigger.

[player_tooltip player_id='1630665' first='Owen' last='Verna'] | Mater Dei

Verna knocked down four of his eight three-point shots in a four-point loss to Arizona-based prep school CIA Bella Vista. The St. Joseph's commit possesses the shooting mechanics one would imagine coming out of a textbook on how to shoot. There's zero wasted motion in his mechanics, he has an ideal release point and tight rotation that results in high level touch on the rim.

Parker Robinson | Overtime Elite (GA)

Robinson is on the bigger and more physical side of the shooting guard position with his burly and well-built 6-foot-4, 185-pound frame but his size doesn't take away from his ability to stroke the perimeter jumper. From the time he catches to when he releases, Robinson can get his shot off in the blink of an eye, which limits the defense's ability to locate and properly closeout to him.
