WI Sophomore ID Camp: Team 1 Evaluations

You don't see a lot of guys with his frame at 6'7 able to move with the ball the way he does. He spent some time in a point-forward roll, could score with his back to the basket, and was dangerous running the floor in transition. He has soft touch around the basket, and can also knock down pull-up jumpers. He's so good at beating his initial defender and getting into the lane, and from there sees the floor well. He generally makes smart decisions with the ball, and knows when he has a lane to finish or when he should kick it out. He's a bit of a tweener position wise, and is capable of playing some bully ball in the paint while also creating out on the wing. Malik drained a pair of tough pull-up threes early in the game, and was also using his physical frame to work his way to the basket and rebound on both ends. His shot wasn't falling this game, but the effortless shot creating ability was clear to see. He creates separation with ease, and can do so without over-dribbling the ball. His plays with good pace and just floats on the perimeter before exploding to the rim. Does a nice job of playing off two feet, getting guys in the air with shot-fakes, and going up balanced to finish. Was able to defend the 1-3 spots with his 6'1 frame. He started things off hitting an early mid-range jumper on the baseline, and extended his range from there. Was constantly looking to push the tempo and throw the ball ahead for transition buckets.
