Considering the level of competition and the circumstances of the game, Skyline Prep's Josh Powell arguably had the best performance of the weekend against Eastwood High School. Trailing most of the game but within striking distance, Skyline Prep and Powell made some tough buckets down the stretch. Moreover, he did it from every spot on the floor, knocking down clutch three-pointers before icing the game at the free-throw line. He might have been quiet for most of the game but the four-star recruit showed up and showed out when it counted most.

The 3-star nationally recruited local talent was in attendance for The Jamboree and went up against some equally big competition on Day 2. Chapin and Hobbs were the second game on in the main gym for the morning slate, pitting the 6-10 Leverett against the 7-0 Parker Henderson from Hobbs. Leverett held his own as Chapin took the win before putting up another solid performance against Alamogordo in the afternoon session.

Someone who is flying under the radar in Borderland but is highly thought of within his program is [player_tooltip player_id='2559052' first='Diego' last='Diaz']. The rising sophomore had a solid 15-point performance against Premier Prep White out of Arizona, showing, if given the opportunity, he can fill it up and win games for the Falcons. Slightly undersized, Diaz is dynamic with the ball in his hands and should be a good backcourt pairing with his fellow 2027 teammate [player_tooltip player_id='2382177' first='Tristan' last=''] Anderson. Additionally, Diaz put his body on the line, tallying four charges against Premier Prep White.

Another sophomore looking to break out this upcoming season is Eastwood's [player_tooltip player_id='2198602' first='Julien' last='Falk-Ramirez']. Like his older brother, he is an absolute gamer whose attitude and overall mentality never change regardless of competition. That was evident in Eastwood's Day 2 matchup against Skyline Prep. The Arizona school had more height and highly recruited talent but that did not stop JFR and Eastwood from nearly winning the game. The sophomore guard was all over the court, especially on the defensive end, making plays for the Troopers.

Whether he starts or comes off the bench, [player_tooltip player_id='2557233' first='Keyshaun' last='Lawrence'] will bring energy and effort. That is exactly what he did on Day 2 of The Jamboree Showcase. Against Alamogordo High School, Lawrence scored 11 points while racking up an unofficial game-high seven steals. Although the stats from the Showcase are officially unofficial, the numbers show that Lawrence can impact the game defensively anytime he steps on the floor. Although he played spot minutes for Chapin last season as a sophomore, his hustle and energy always stood out. With more opportunity coming into his junior year, his impact on the defensive end should be felt even more.

Another player who flew under my radar before the start of The Jamboree is Hanks junior [player_tooltip player_id='2423058' first='Sebastian' last='Meraz']. At 6-5, with a lot of length, Meraz can't help but stand out among his teammates. The Knights are an interesting squad heading into the 2024-25 season because of significant roster turnover. But with Meraz's 26-point performance in the afternoon slate and other new key pieces on the floor, Hanks will be a tough out at the 2-5A level this season.
