Team Preview: Goodland Cowboys

<p>As we start to enter the fall high school basketball teams are starting workouts in preparation for the 2023-24 season. This preview will cover the projected most valuable player, most improved, defensive player of the year, and other notable players for Goodland (22-4, lost to Wellsville in the 3A state championship game).<br></p>   <h2 class="wp-block-heading has-medium-font-size"><strong>Most Valuable Player: [player_tooltip player_id='1614190' first='Brady' last='Brumbaugh']</strong></h2>    <p class="text-gray-700">1st team all-3A, 1st Team all-Great West</p>   <p>17 PPG, 4.9 RPG, 2.2 APG, 1.2 SPG, 0.5 BPG, 47% FG, 38% 3P, 81% FT</p>   <p class="text-gray-700">Brumbaugh is a natural scorer and is very tough to guard. At 6'5”, Brumbaugh can shoot over defenders off the dribble and has a quick trigger in catch-and-shoot opportunities. Off the dribble, he punishes late help defense with floaters and mid-range pull-ups. Brumbaugh is also strong driving to the rim and is difficult to stop due to his length.</p>    <h2 class="wp-block-heading has-medium-font-size"><strong>Most Improved Player: Braylon Mull</strong></h2>    <p class="text-gray-700">4.2 PPG, 1.4 RPG, 1.7 APG, 0.7 SPG, 35% FG, 38% 3P, 80% FT<br>Mull has been a varsity rotation piece since he was a freshman. In his sophomore year, Mull embraced a larger role and increased his points, rebounds, and assists per game. Lasty season, he made most of his living off his three point shooting. He's not just a spot up shooter, he's capable of scoring off screens and dribble moves as well. Mull has shown flashes as a solid driver, defender, and playmaker, making him a prime candidate for a breakout year.</p>    <h2 class="wp-block-heading has-medium-font-size"><strong>Defensive Player of the Year:</strong></h2>    <p class="text-gray-700">2nd team all-Great West, 3A all-state honorable mention<br>11.2 PPG, 5.7 RPG, 2.1 APG, 1.3 SPG, 2.1 BPG, 53% FG, 35% 3P, 52% FT<br>Cure is one of the best rim protectors in the state (see <a href="https://prephoops.com/2024/09/shot-blockers-watchlist-1a-3a/">Shot Blockers Watchlist: 1A-3A</a>). He is a strong and athletic defender who's numbers speak for themselves. Offensively, Cure is a great athlete, capable of highlight dunks. He has good touch around the rim, a good jumper, and is a skilled playmaker in the post.</p>    <h2 class="wp-block-heading has-medium-font-size"><strong>Other Notable Players:</strong></h2>    <p class="text-gray-700">2.8 PPG, 2.7 RPG, 1.1 APG, 1.3 SPG, 0.3 BPG<br>Similar to Mull, Thorson is another player likely for a breakout season. Thorson is looking to expand his role and do a bit of everything for Goodland this year. He's a solid defender, hits the glass, and showed flashes as a scorer and shooter last year.</p>     <p class="text-gray-700">4.0 PPG, 2.9 RPG, 0.8 APG, 0.4 SPG, 0.5 BPG, 60% FG, 63% FT<br>Linin was an important rotation piece for Goodland last year and is likely to be impactful this year. Defensively, he's physical inside, can guard multiple positions, and hits the glass hard. Offensively, his rebounding translates into second-chance points. He's also an efficient scorer, doing most of his damage from the interior. </p>     <p class="text-gray-700">3.0 PPG, 1.5 RPG, 1.0 APG, 0.7 SPG, 44% FG, 40% 3P, 70% FT<br>Senderstrom is a solid defender and a knock down three-point shooter. He's active defensively, translating into steals and deflections. Senderstrom stays ready to shoot and is a great floor-spacer, knocking down threes at an efficient clip.</p>    <h2 class="wp-block-heading has-medium-font-size"><strong>Wildcards:</strong></h2>   <p>Barrett Schlosser 6'1" senior</p>   <p>Jesus Saucedo 5'8" junior</p>   <p>Kado Romero 5'11" junior</p>   <p>Jaxon Miller 6'1" sophomore</p>
