made his verbal commitment to Portland State announcement and for the rising 6-foot-6 swingman from Barlow, the future is bright. He's generated plenty of buzz
"Portland state just seemed like the right option for me and going to to see the facility, practices and campus, it made me feel like I can really fit in," Barron said. "I could see myself being a wing and getting pretty good playing time helping PSU succeed in different categories. The program itself is great."
Portland State had been tracking Barron for quite some time, and offered a scholarship - his first - back in June after seeing him excel at the WIBCA recruiting event with Barlow. He built up a relationship with the coaches and made the call to commit not long after his official visit to campus last week.
"I like how I'm able to stay very close to my house living 30 minutes away from home," Barron said. "And the school itself I love everything about it and I think it's nicer than everyone thinks."
The 2023-24 season was a breakout year for Barron, who averaged 14.3 points, a team-high 7.6 rebounds, and 1.3 blocked shots shooting over 60 percent from the field in helping the Bruins reach the 6A state tournament. With his natural length, athleticism, and ability to play above the rim, Barron noted he wants to continue to improve his conditioning and running the plays the right way as Barlow will once again be one of the state title favorites. He's looking forward to the opportunity for sure.
"All I can say is we'll be in the championship game," he said.
As noted, the top-five ranked Barron is the first in-state senior to commit to a college program. Our congratulations go out to him and his family on his commitment.
