August 19th-20th Cedric Cobb Sr and I had the 7th annual Southwest Basketball Camp at the Phhacility in Phx, AZ. 120 players from a few states came to gain exposure in front of college coaches and scouts plus compete versus some top end players over the two days.

Each player competed in 5 games for the two days plus 60 competed in an extra All-Star Game. (Top-20, Top-40 and a Non-Senior All-Star Game)

We take a look at each team's standouts.

One of the top senior guards in the state showed off during many stretches. The future D1 point guard is strong, shifty and hyper athletic. He is very hard to stay in front of and he will either pull-up from mid-range or get into your body and finish above you or thru you with his strength. He sees the court with next level court vision and can rip some pockets on D.

Played/Made Top-40 Game

[player_tooltip player_id='2052370' first='Jackson' last='Harrison'] Scottsdale Christian Academy

One of the top sophomores in attendance has one of the purest shooting strokes. He can catch and shoot and release the ball so quickly with one of those strokes that look good every attempt. He can give a hard ball fake and dribble by to the basket. He rebounds well in his area and don't be surprised to see him put up 25 ppg on varsity this season.

[player_tooltip player_id='2133646' first='Myles' last='Godfrey'] Cactus Shadows

Another top notch sophomore is a pure point guard. He has a super shifty handle and often changes speeds to get to his spots. He has a polished pull-up and will hit the catch three. He sprays the ball around and throws some dimes to teammates.

Played/Made Non-Senior Game

[player_tooltip player_id='1950116' first='Ethan' last='Hayes'] Horizon (Pictured)

A quickly growing taller scoring guard is a real shooter. He has a picture perfect stroke from the three point line. He takes long strides when he drives it to the basket. He will rebound and uses his length in the passing lanes. When he is rattling in his shots, he is a tough cover. He will be one of the top scores for the Huskies this year.

[player_tooltip player_id='2146241' first='Creighton' last='Wirth'] Campo Verde

A scoring combo makes it look easy in stretches. He has an easy shooting stroke off the catch from the three point line. The south paw can pull-up from mid-range off the dribble and will see the court and play unselfishly.

Other Standouts

[player_tooltip player_id='1301720' first='Justin' last='Bandy'] Phhoenix Prep

A versatile good-sized power forward can score from inside and out. He handles the ball really well to go coast to coast in a pinch plus can shoot it to the three point line. He has soft hands and can score inside with layups and dunk it.

[player_tooltip player_id='2533601' first='Xavier' last='Ledet'] Cactus

A very quick shooting guard can score it. He has some speed and the lefty can hit the mid-range pull-up plus give a hard ball fake and blow past his defender. The long and lean guard can hit the three and is very shot happy.

[player_tooltip player_id='2534791' first='Carter' last='Perry'] Veritas Preparatory

A newcomer for myself is a skilled power forward who plays with a motor. He will get on the glass with aggression and score on put backs plus step out and shoot the three.

[player_tooltip player_id='2534794' first='Damann' last='L Young II'] Phhoenix Prep

A long wing forward can score and he is a fluid athlete. He has a nice handle and will get downhill with his longer strides. He can also hit the catch three and is good in the open court on the break. He got better as the camp went on.

[player_tooltip player_id='1505672' first='Ryan' last='Leggitt'] Desert Ridge

A strong framed shooting guard can score it. He can get hot quickly from the three point line using a higher arcing shot. He squares up quickly and will let it fly. He shows effort on defense and rebounds well in his area. He is one of those whose confidence is linked to his pretty stroke.
