Following are some brief observations from Team #1 at the Prep Hoops Freshman Showcase.

Shane Dasqui 6-4 Clarkston Stop me if you have heard this before. A fundamentally sound player from Clarkston who is a good shooter and plays his role well. The suburban Detroit powerhouse has been pumping out players who fit this prototype for what seems like my lifetime. On top of the solid all around skill set. Dasqui was a good athlete with length.

[player_tooltip player_id='1292737' first='Broden' last='Burgess'] 5-10 Jackson Lumen Christi Really liked the play of this stocky strong guard. Drove to the basket without fear and finished through contact more than once. Offset the drive game with extremely deep range on the perimeter. The parochial gridiron power is starting to really build something on the hardwood. Players like this are going to keep that momentum up.

[player_tooltip player_id='2526354' first='Bladen' last='White'] 6-0 Bloomfield Hills Brother Rice Smooth guard who seemingly attacked the basket all day. When defenders began to sag. Confidently stuck a three. Didn't get the finish at times off his many drives. Increased strength should take care of that.

Jaylen Gilmore 5-8 Warren Mott High energy player was seemingly in constant motion all day. Moved well off the ball. Which you don't often see from a small guard. Especially on one particular ATO where he cut hard to get open and aggressively called for the ball. Was good driver to the left side despite appearing to be right handed.

[player_tooltip player_id='2527377' first='Ivan' last='Abel'] 5-6 Portland Small but physical point guard. Had a stocky frame and did not appear to mind contact. Competed hard defensively. Will need to become a better finisher at the rim. Part of an emerging Portland program under seasoned head coach Luke Pohl.

[player_tooltip player_id='2753940' first='Taiven' last='Dermyer'] 5-4 Battle Creek Lakeview Was one the smaller players in the camp. However that did not stop him from making contributions. Had the high arc on his shot needed to get it over taller defenders. Good ball handler who avoided getting smothered in traps. If the size comes along. The skill level is already there.

[player_tooltip player_id='2428613' first='Eshan' last='Burrel-Pullins'] 5-11 Grand Rapids Catholic Central Lead guard with good size. Plays with maturity and you can tell he has grown up around the game. Unlike a lot of young guards seemed comfortable in the mid range. The Catholic program might be in a brief period of transition. Burrel-Pullins should be a part of the future.

Dylan Steele 6-2 Vermontville Maple Valley Versatile player who did a little bit of everything. Rebounded well for his size. Pushed the ball with his handle and often served as his own outlet pass. Also showed a smooth and confident stroke from beyond the arc. With accompanying deep range

Carter Estelle 6-3 Hopkins Another Estelle at Hopkins. Estelle had good size and seemed comfortable both in the post and out on the perimeter. Had a real nice cross court skip pass that showed off his strength and court vision. Nice long frame that should fill out well as he ages.

Kolin Younce 6-4 Grand Rapids South Christian (pictured) Player whose game grew on me as the day progressed. Doesn't pass the initial eye test athletically. The more I watched, I saw the he ran the court well and had more lateral quickness than you would think. Has a stocky and thick frame. Used it to establish deep position often. Has a soft left handed touch around the basket. Also seems to have well schooled footwork. By the end of the day. His team was running designed plays for him in the post.

Chase Terry 5-9 Rochester Adams Quick “water bug” type point guard who played with toughness all day. Competed hard defensively and seemingly was always picking himself off the ground. Took one particularly nasty fall that I thought would might end his day. He was only out a few minutes. There is a nice collection of talent coming up in the Adams program. Terry showed the ability to possibly be in the mix as the trigger man.
