The Summer Finale hosted by the Great American Shootout (GASO) has its share of shoe circuit teams participating. One of the premier games early Saturday was the [program_tooltip program_id='2076374' first='OWE' last=''] EYCL team from Louisiana versus the ASAK 17U team from Austin. In a back and forth contest, ASAK 17U pulled off the 54-53 win over [program_tooltip program_id='2076374' first='OWE' last='']. In this game report, we will look at specifics from the contest.

Leading Scorers

[player_tooltip player_id='1358190' first='Knowledge' last='Carter'] (ASAK 17U 3SSB) - The 5'10" guard from Austin is a guard who attacks the rim relentlessly. His first step is lightning quick and he gets downhill quickly. His team high of 14 came from drives to the cup from the left wing. Carter brushed through contact and finished layups in the half court and in transition. He also made the winning defensive play as he blocked a layup attempt by [program_tooltip program_id='2076374' first='OWE' last=''] with under 10 seconds remaining. Very good floor game by Carter.

[player_tooltip player_id='1209106' first='Ronald' last='Bubba Strong'] ([program_tooltip program_id='2076374' first='OWE' last=''] EYCL) - Normally a volume shooter from behind the arc, Strong scored his game high 17 differently today. Strong attacked the rim in transition and scored or got fouled on several occasions. He put pressure on the defense to either foul him or collapse and give him a passing lane to an open teammate. Strong did make four triples with the last one being the one that brought [program_tooltip program_id='2076374' first='OWE' last=''] within a point. His ability to shoot and drive was on display in full.

Best Defensive Players

Davaughn Hueitt (ASAK 17U 3SSB) - When it comes to man-to-man and help defense, Hueitt was the best player on the floor for ASAK. He either blocked or deterred layups at the rim. When [program_tooltip program_id='2076374' first='OWE' last=''] had possible transition layups, he had two chase down blocks and a third that trickled in after he got a hand on it. His activity was essential in his team pulling out the victory

[player_tooltip player_id='1347173' first='Jaden' last='Williams'] ([program_tooltip program_id='2076374' first='OWE' last=''] EYCL) - The reason Hueitt had chase down opportunities was due to the perimeter defense of [player_tooltip player_id='1347173' first='Jaden' last='Williams']. He frustrated each guard that ASAK used with his movement. His constant defensive pressure made each guard uncomfortable and left them vulnerable to not just steals, but unforced mishaps. Williams caused traveling calls and mishandles with the dribble. While he also finished with 12 points, it was his defense that made a big difference in this game.

Other Standouts

[player_tooltip player_id='1393932' first='Kerel' last='Dean-Woods'] ([program_tooltip program_id='2076374' first='OWE' last=''] EYCL) - His defense and overall energy was valued by his teammates. Dean-Woods used his length to block several shots at the rim. He also battled for several rebounds that helped his team get into transition. Kerel was very good offensively as well showing his ability to step out and pass the ball. He played a very good game on both ends.

[player_tooltip player_id='2447590' first='Ryder' last='Bradley'] (ASAK 17U 3SSB) - When his team was trailing in the second half, Bradley had a deeply important stretch in the game. Bradley scored his nine second half points consecutively ultimately giving his team the lead. His full offensive game was on display as well. He scored an and-1, made a three, and another score in a critical four minute period. His stretch made gave his team a leg up for the win.

Lagniappe

[player_tooltip player_id='2447588' first='Ivan' last='Dorn Jr.'] was active on the defensive and offensive boards while scoring his 9 points. His activity was infectious for his team. Drew Ward played the point well and got [program_tooltip program_id='2076374' first='OWE' last=''] into their sets. He also played good perimeter defense [player_tooltip player_id='1225429' first='Uzziah' last='Buntyn'] is very good at penetrating the lane and setting up others for scores. Da'Morrian Williams is a different animal. His quickness off the floor and length all[program_tooltip program_id='2076374' first='OWE' last='']d him to block several shots and change others. His interior play was very good.

This game will probably be one of the best on the weekend. Twenty-plus college coaches watched this game. Hopefully other showcase games will be as good as this one.
