2024 @PrepHoopsTN Combine Evaluations: Part II

In this article:
A June Sunday always ushers in the @PrepHoopsTN Combine. Ordinarily the final Sunday suffices, but this year we tipped June 16th with an insanely talented coaching staff. The gym hosted high energy. Read about several of the campers with their evaluations from the day. All measurements/times are listed in the linked article.

Catches high, shoots high. Wingspan is 6'6", which is helpful for a rebounder. Feet are a little heavy. Probably a high school 4 with fringe wing potential by his junior/senior year. At Perry County he will be successful at 3 positions (SF, PF, C). Soft touch around the rim. Footwork is sharp. There is a whiff of Luka in his stew, as Landon is already dropping a fadeaway off one foot. He used it after a pump fake very well in a drill. There is also the possibility that he can go up and under with that. The only worry is that he could become a tweener. A slightly short power forward. Three years is a long time and he showed an encouraging skill foundation with imposing size.

A little wiggle. Strong dude. Knows how to use his butt to fend off defender. Fit. Takes care of his body. Stronger than most campers. Q always carries around a jug of water, which reveals he thinks about health and staying in shape. Big hands. Needs to get a go-to move attacking with pace. His post-up game is better than average, but he could incorporate a hesitation dribble or crossover.
Check his times in the sprint and agility drills.

Willing passer. Gabe showed during the 5v5 portion he is able to secure a defensive rebound, push the ball, and find a scorer in a danger in a spot. Areas he needs to improve are on-ball defense, elite ball-handling, and overall change of direction. Gabe's skills are such that he won't fumble or crumble and yet his next stage of development can be expanding his game from reliable to innovative. When he gains the ability to take and effectively perform penetrating chances he will be a problematic defensive assignment.
Ok sprint times. Gabe used his speed to get by a couple of defenders in 5v5.

Surprising athleticism at his height. Ashby's speed in the Lane Agility was stunning (11.68, 11.73). Though young and strong, Ashby plays with clean hips and passable handle. Projects as a combo forward. Beautiful drop step. He really shows a capability to attack with his dribble though he is built like a young power forward. The speed is what stands out, but for a sophomore-to-be to possess such skilled footwork is exciting. Perhaps a harbinger for a strong future.

Stocky. Ok with contact. Strong around the rim though he could be an inch short for a college big. Average speed. It would be nice if he could be a little faster, because he is dangerous as a scorer around the rim. When you play with

you want to be active in transition and moving without the ball. He will find you. Also, Rodney plays with so much gravity that defenses poorly account for a guy like Harper Jr. That is an area to exploit.

Wonderful guard height. Jaxson is clearly capable of competing as a guard now and projects at the same position after high school. Jaxson recorded a great Lane Agility time (11.97 seconds). His second Lane Agility time was not as good (12.93). As a taller guard the first time is quite exciting.
Alcorn once again demonstrated above average skill for his grade. He can get better quickening his transition from dribble to jumper. The shooting window naturally shrinks as defenders get better and bigger. He thrives against slow-footed defenders, but this event introduced a sprinkling of speedy Chattanooga wings that are more reflective of where Jaxson is headed. Dropping his gorgeous shot on those kinda guys is possible.
