OK Fadeaway Hoops Smoke In The City: Standout Wings

Several wings had a great showing this past weekend at Smoke In The City hosted by OK Fadeaway Hoops. These six prospects made quite an impact on both sides of the ball and caught my eye with a variety of play styles. These are my picks for the players who jumped out as the most standout wings.    Joshua Baba is a very athletic and active wing who impressed with his activity on both sides of the ball. His quick feet and hands allowed him to apply full-court pressure throughout the weekend which led to a number of steals, followed by transition looks at the rim. While in half-court sets, Joshua excelled by cutting off-ball and attacking driving lanes hard. He regularly would elevate above defenders and extend the ball with both hands to make finishing among bigger opponents much easier. His ability to grab-and-go following defensive rebounds kept opposing teams on their toes as they were forced to match EAD's fast paced tempo. To seal their 58-48 win against Runners 2028, Joshua came away with a steal and threw down a big dunk in the closing moments to add an exclamation mark onto the hard-fought win.     [player_tooltip player_id='2428019' first='Kingsley' last='Koch'] is a very well-rounded wing who was able to do a little bit of everything at Smoke In The City. Defensively, Kingsley did a great job of serving as a roamer and jumping passing lanes. He makes good reads all over the court and takes calculated risks to avoid getting out of position. While on offense, Kingsley used his impressive footwork to get defenders to over-commit which opened wide driving lanes. He also was able to gather in the paint before elevating off of two feet. This really helped him stay under control and finish around the rim throughout the weekend. Kingsley is a good athlete, but his level of understanding of the game helped him to stand out as he impacted winning with high level communication and an ability to excel at "the little things".     Darien Luke is an extremely athletic wing who was simply too much for most defenders to handle. He stayed in attack mode throughout the weekend and used his impressive vertical to elevate above the rim with several eye-catching finishes. He was able to use his change of speed to blow past defenders before cutting up defenses in the lane. Darien also has a solid shooting form and knocked down a variety of three-point jumpers. He stayed ready for catch-and-shoot looks as well as being able to hit deep threes off the bounce. His elite athleticism also helped Darien throw down a few powerful dunks which seemed to leave many opponents cautious about challenging him on the inside. Along with his scoring ability, Darien was an impressive passer in transition. He kept his eyes up and was often hitting cutters and his bigs near the rim. He was able to see open looks before anyone else on the court and did a great job of the best look possible.     [player_tooltip player_id='2458272' first='Owen' last='Wynn'] is a very versatile wing who caught eyes with his ability to excel in finishing as well as being a secondary playmaker. He spent a decent bit of time playing out of the high post where he had the choice to attack the rim or keep the ball moving for better looks. He has great attacking moves, like a nice spin which led to a wide-open look at the rim. Owen never held onto the ball for too long and did a great job overall of keeping THQ's offense moving. Once defenses began taking away his driving lanes, Owen was able to throw impressive cross-court passes to open shooters. His mentality was also impressive as he tracked down tough rebounds and was able to hit free throws down the stretch of an extremely physical 48-42 win.     [player_tooltip player_id='2140772' first='Mar'Quell' last='Robinson'] is an overpowering wing who impressed as much playing on-ball as he did when off-ball. He is a nonstop mover who created open looks and punished defenses when they failed to communicate. Mar'Quell also excelled in grab-and-go situations where he was able to create transition looks out of nothing. His ability to impact the game with his athleticism was impressive throughout the weekend as he stayed prepared to attack the basket off the dribble as well as backdoor cuts. He scored from all three levels and rarely held up the flow of the offense by keeping the ball moving if he did not have a good look. Overall, Mar'Quell combined his gifts as an athlete with a high basketball IQ to keep opponents guessing and forcing them to match his tempo.     [player_tooltip player_id='2326941' first='Miles' last='Jackson'] stood out as not only one of the top prospects at this event, but as one of the top prospects in all of Oklahoma. He has grown over an inch since this past season and still has very impressive guard skills. On defense, Miles has quick feet and active hands that caused many problems for opponents and resulted in several steals and blocked shots. Miles was able to overwhelm on traps and in passing lanes to wreak havoc throughout the weekend. Offensively, Miles finished around the rim consistently, but I was most impressed with his ability to knock down tough midrange shots. Pulling up off the dribble seemed almost too easy for Miles and was consistently able to knock down jumpers over the outstretched arms of defenders. Being able to create looks for himself off the dribble at his size bodes extremely well for his upside and I would not be shocked at all to see him make another leap in his game over the next few months.
