Next Sumer Slam presented by Prep Hoops was a two-day event in Appleton Wisconsin on Saturday and Sunday June 15th-16th. Roughly 25 teams of the 2028 class took part in the event. I saw some talented players of whom are preparing to enter the high school ranks. Call me impressed and certainly hope to see more as I start to prepare my annual watch list for the new incoming classes.

Below is the list I have created for the top prospects I saw at the event for the class.

DJ Ninkovic | 6'4" | W | 2028 | Wisconsin Playground

This one caught my eye early and held my attention. Really liked his inside outside play where he often made an impact in various ways. His frame looks to be more developed than most incoming freshman. He often was battling on the inside where his physical nature helped him well. One other thing I think I noticed about the prospect is he might just be a gym rat. Between games, while players often go to the stands or leave the facility, this one chose to watch other games and took time during game breaks to work on form shooting or whatever. He will definitely be going on the 2028 watch list.

[player_tooltip player_id='2463400' first='Cole' last='Moomey'] | 6'0" | G | 2028 | Wisconsin Playground

Right from the jump first two trips down on offensive possessions resulted in left wing threes; nailed them both. Then for some reason they went away from him. I believe you keep going to the hot hand until they miss but even though that happened, thorough out the contest, I thought he was able to find his shot attempts. Call me impressed with his no fear attitude to find and take the long-distance shots.

[player_tooltip player_id='2508468' first='Ben' last='Wittnebel'] | 6'2" | G | 2028 | [program_tooltip program_id='2076023' first='Wisconsin' last='Academy'] | Beaver Dam HS

I was really impressed with this player. He looks the part of a baller player first of all with long lean & lean physical traits. I found him to be unique in that he was very patient with his approach. Too often prospects thinks it is all a sprint. Wittnebel, at times, nicely let the play develop before creating. I saw a play on the wing where he had to keep his defender off of him and then wait for his teammate work to get a backdoor cut. Ben hit his teammate in stride with a great pass for the bucket. But in this offensive set, the prospect kept the high-pressure defender off by leaning and bumping into him with his shoulder and then by keeping the ball low and away. Just thought it was an advanced play all around for a young player to make. Thought his shot looked good, his handles tight for this age, and that his teammates looked for him when they were getting pressured. Another one for the early watch list.

Keondre Schaefferkotter | 5'9" | PG | E2E Elite -Minnesota

If there was to be an MVP of the tournament this one probably would have been named it. For the game I watched I thought he was one of the most advanced players I watch for the event. Could nail the outside shot, just when his team needed them the most. He worked the screens and looks at the pic-n-rolls, for a guard he had solid footwork around the rim. Was constantly running the floor and could finish in transition with a variety of layups. In this contest that I watched the opponent had no answers for him and he scored often and almost at will.

Others that did nice things:

[player_tooltip player_id='2618890' first='Terrin' last='Jackson'] of Verona

[player_tooltip player_id='2369883' first='Jase' last='Navis'] of Mauston

[player_tooltip player_id='2423093' first='Evan' last='Luchetti'] of Monona Grove

Chad Johnson from Minnesota

[player_tooltip player_id='2504214' first='Jaquan' last='Turner'] from a very nice [program_tooltip program_id='2391400' first='Team' last='Herro'] team
