Maryland Live: Guard Standouts

13p 7a 6s 3r chg Really dynamic at both ends of the floor and always around the ball, using his quickness to beat opponents to spots en route to 6 steals. Didn't have a great shooting day from the floor but made his teammates better and got essential paint touches that forced the defense to shift. -Patient, confident jump shooter that finished 7/11 from the floor while knocking down C+S looks but also showing the ability to quickly get to his 1 or 2-dribble pull-up after the pump fake got him by the hard closeout. His body has improved and he's putting it on the floor better, showed good footwork in the paint to score around the defender. 21p 4r 3a -Wellman has a ton of wiggle to his game, using hesi's and hang dribbles to freeze his defender before blowing past him to the rim. Spent the evening getting two feet in the paint and causing havoc for his opponent's defensive schemes, creating well for perimeter shooters while mixing in a few buckets off his pivot foot around the defender. Needs to put on weight and vertical explosiveness to get to the Division 1 level but the finishing craft, shooting ability, and feel makes you feel optimistic about it Didn't have a big game scoring the basketball (3r 2a), but Johnson impacted the game on both ends of the floor with his unselfish play-making, ball-hawking play style. Applies a ton of ball pressure without getting out of position and shades the ballhandler to help. Offensively he got 2 feet in the paint consistently and delivered a few dimes that teammates didn't convert on-- but the fact that his team went on a run every time he touches the floor speaks to his character. 18p 1r 1a 1b 4/7 3p -Stepped into his shots with confidence and hit nothing but the dead center of the rim on his makes. Sardo was very efficient getting to his spots and wasn't sped up by ball pressure and traps, although the handle needs to improve to allow him to squeeze through tighter gaps in the defense vs retreat dribbling or dribbling to space to create a better passing window. Competes defensively, understands positioning and angles defensively, and will contest the shot without fouling -Fryszer has that ball on a string. Shows a really tight handle and is an excellent live dribble passer with either hand in the short roll, transition or in halfcourt. Dribbles to space to draw 2 to create easy looks for his bigs to finish around the rim. Needs to improve as an off-ball mover and cutter to mix in some easy looks at the basket.
