-Really hard to overstate the impact that our scouts see with Johnson on a consistent basis. A lightning-quick 2-way guard that always plays with a motor, a layup attempt is never a safe bet to get above his opponent’s hips– especially in transition– as Johnson swiped away 4 steals throughout the game and forced his opponents to commit several TOs along the baseline. Johnson scored at the rim in transition, got to the FT line pretty well throughout the game, and knocked down a big wing 3 to tie the game late in regulation to force OT. He plays well under pressure, is a selfless leader for his team, and can play off of other guards in the halfcourt.

Johnson is a jet quick water-bug guard who uses his small stature to his advantage by getting by defenders. He lives in the paint. He was able to turn defense to offense. Johnson found a way to get rebounds. He also showed that he has nice finishes around the bucket. I would like to see Johnson become more of a threat from behind the three point line. He chipped 14 points in a loss to Peddie. Johnson would be a great pickup at the small college level.

Amonte is special because of his ability to read the defense in real time and make sound decisions with the ball. Most games I’ve seen of his, Amonte has at least one or two crowd-pleasing passes and/or assists. He can get by any defender or zone defense with a quick burst , and after he gets into the paint he attracts a lot of defensive attention. Amonte has mastered the skill of drawing the help away from his intended scorer inside the paint or outside the perimeter. He makes quick dropoff passes underneath to his big and also improved his ability to hit them through the pick-and-roll/pop.

94 –> 80
Amonte has taken a big leap so far this summer, earning himself a spot in the top 80 after this update. Produces in a big way for Springdale running the 1, keeping the offense flowing and the ball moving. He can get into his iso-game and create for himself well as a small guard, but he can create for others just as well or better. Amonte darts through the lane and keeps his head up to find his open teammates. Finds shooters all game along the perimeter and dumps the rock inside to dunkers. Dominates in transition getting up the floor before anyone and finishing at the basket. Big senior season coming up for Amonte as he takes the reigns as the lead guard.

Amonte was great all around the floor for Springdale. Scored the ball from anywhere he wanted offensively, showing the skill to get around any defender at any time. Amonte was inside and out the paint the whole second half and played a big part in pushing his team’s lead past 20. Shot the ball with consistency from deep and finished a number of fast breaks with a layup past the trailing defenders. Started to break the defense apart by dashing in the lane and seeking out his shooters/cutters.

10p 8r 4a 5s vs Hargrave
-Did a great job of manufacturing paint touches and creating easy looks for his bigs throughout the game. Love his burst of speed and how quickly he can change gears to get downhill. Also really was impressed by his defensive IQ, a small guard that leverages his size to get underneath ballhandlers to force turnovers— he isn’t scared to double down on bigs or sneak behind a ball handler to poke out a steal. His active hands and play-making pushed his team down the stretch to a good win over Hargrave.

set the Puma circuit on fire last summer and only has built on his game since then. His final circuit session with MD 1Life1Shot saw him average over 30 points a game. Amonte is unique due to his ability to score the ball as well as distribute at a very high level. His role will surely increase next season as he will likely be the starting point guard entering the 2025-26 season. I believe this summer will be Amonte’s strongest due to his added experience and IQ.

I’ve liked seeing the different aspects in Amonte’s game being shown game-in and game-out. Over the AAU period, Amonte was a bracket-leading bucket-getter, ending circuit sessions with scoring averages well over 20 and even 30+ points per game. A machine with the way he can produce his baskets, strong base that helps with taking contact on his way to the rim. His offense was on full display With Springdale Prep Amonte takes more of the facilitating role, hitting his teammates in rhythm and creating shots for them with his ability to get to his spots. He’s had some big assist games off the bench and puts in points when it’s needed. Nice to see that Johnson impacts winning in a variety of ways and can switch to different roles depending on what the situation calls for.
