Three months have passed since the 2024 state basketball tournament at the Pit in Albuquerque. Summer camps are ongoing right now. We're starting to look ahead to the 2024-25 season. Here are 8 prospects to watch in Class 5A for next season:

[player_tooltip player_id='1687823' first='Thomas' last='Adams'], Sandia: Adams, a two-sport standout (one of the best defenders on Sandia's football team), is currently ranked No. 6 in our 2025 prospect rankings. He earned Class 5A Honorable Mention All-State honors after leading Sandia in scoring and rebounding while shooting 41 percent from 3-point range. Adams has impressed on the spring/summer hoops circuit, especially as a 3-point shooter. If you're looking for a Breakout Player of the Year in Class 5A, Adams is a great choice. He's one of several talented player returning for Sandia in 2024-25. Watch out for the Matadors.

[player_tooltip player_id='1176300' first='Kenyon' last='Aguino'], Volcano Vista: A rising senior, the 6-foot-7 forward is New Mexico's reigning MaxPreps Player of the Year. He led the Hawks to their third consecutive Class 5A state championship by averaging 22.0 points, 11.0 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game while shooting 62.4 percent from the field and an impressive 47.0 percent from 3-point range. Volcano Vista is 88-2 in Aguino's first three years with the varsity. Holds six offers: New Mexico State, Cal Poly, Cal State-Northridge, North Dakota, Northern Colorado and San Jose State.

[player_tooltip player_id='1717219' first='Tracen' last='Huntsman'], Centennial: Huntsman is an intriguing 6-foot-2, 180-pound shooting guard for the Hawks. He earned 5A-3 All-District Second Team Honors as a sophomore after being the top non-senior scorer on Centennial last season. The Hawks' top 3 scorers were seniors in 2023-24, so look for Huntsman to take on a larger load of the scoring and rebounding in 2024-25. Camped last weekend at Austin Peay and Southern Indiana. Promising 3-point shooter.

[player_tooltip player_id='1176299' first='Daniel' last='Lovato'], La Cueva: The 6-foot-5 Lovato is one of the top front court players in New Mexico (ranked as the No. 2 2025 forward behind Aguino), and with [player_tooltip player_id='1176302' first='Cameron' last='Dyer'] deciding to graduate early and forego his senior hoops season, Lovato will be counted on heavily by the Bears in 2024-25. Lovato was La Cueva's second leading scorer (12.2 ppg) and rebounder (7.4 rpg) in 2023-24. He shot 59 percent from the field.

[player_tooltip player_id='2111977' first='David' last='Lunn'], Volcano Vista: A rising sophomore, Lunn is regarded by many analysts as the state's No. 1 prospect in the 2027 class. He's a physically imposing at 6-foot-4, 200 pounds with good speed and quickness. That's why West Virginia of the Big 12 has offered along with Howard. As a freshman, Lunn helped lead Volcano Vista to a third consecutive Class 5A state championship and earned Honorable Mention All-State honors. With Aguino and Lunn returning in 2024-25, Volcano Vista is ready to compete for a 4th straight Class 5A state title.

[player_tooltip player_id='1176301' first='Latavious' last='Morris'], Atrisco Heritage/ABC Prep: Dynamic on the football field and basketball court, Morris is one of the best all-around athletes in the Albuquerque Metro Region. He was spectacular for Atrisco Heritage hoops this past season, scoring 34+ points EIGHT times, including 48 points against Cleveland Jan. 31 in a huge victory for the Jaguars. Morris announced on May 16 that he will join ABC Prep for his senior campaign. Offered by Marshalltown Community College and Trinidad State. Outstanding on the summer circuit so far. Stock is rising.

[player_tooltip player_id='1687828' first='Abraham' last='Pena'], Hobbs: Only Morris scored more points than Pena in Class 5A among 2025 prospects. Pena also led the Eagles in assists, steals and free throw percentage en route to earning First-Team All-District honors. Pena and 2026 PG [player_tooltip player_id='1717327' first='Braylon' last='Vega'] will be a formidable backcourt duo for Hobbs in 2024-25.

[player_tooltip player_id='1158654' first='Daniel' last='Steverson'], Cleveland/ABC Prep: Steverson earned First-Team All-State honors after leading the Storm to a 20-8 record. However, the 6-foot-4 Steverson shook up the Albuquerque Metro Region high schools hoops ranks by announcing May 29 that he will play for ABC Prep in 2024-24, leaving a huge void for Cleveland to fill. He excelled at a recent summer event in Kansas City, including a triple-double in his first game, earning recognition from national analysts. Steverson does it all: scoring, rebounding, assists, defense and leadership.

https://twitter.com/danielstevers/status/1795954408569655616

https://twitter.com/HawkBoysBBall/status/1762238865362854357

https://twitter.com/TracenDH30/status/1800220625510060340

https://twitter.com/danielstevers/status/1795954408569655616

https://twitter.com/RL_Hoops/status/1785075029979410539

https://twitter.com/RL_Hoops/status/1792214838669693413

https://twitter.com/lunn_iii/status/1795592904515432478

https://twitter.com/NXTPROMidwest/status/1784653491723542968

https://twitter.com/adams_thomas11/status/1793835435242004636

https://twitter.com/DanielL20886563/status/1770546499640033476
