2026 SG [player_tooltip player_id='1978130' first='Hudson' last='Lorensen'] (ADM)

Lorensen will be one of the most talented players in the gym this weekend, and he showed why against Roland-Story to kick off action on Friday morning. The junior guard can do a little bit of everything on the offensive end. A lefty with a smooth stroke from deep, he excels as a catch-and-shoot weapon, showing a quick, pure release when he has his feet set on the catch. He also does a nice job using the threat of his jumper as a weapon to open up the rest of his game, attacking hard closeouts and getting into the 6-8 foot range, where he displayed soft touch on right-handed floaters to finish over the defense. He's a skilled all-around offensive weapon who doesn't force anything, doesn't get sped up, and is capable of carrying his team for long stretches with his versatility on that end of the floor. He finished with 20 points, including 12 in the third quarter alone before sitting for the entire fourth.

2025 SG [player_tooltip player_id='2397342' first='Jackson' last='Brown'] (Ballard)

I love the way that [player_tooltip player_id='2397342' first='Jackson' last='Brown'] played in the Bombers game against Newton - he was constantly looking to attack his smaller defender off the dribble, putting his head down and getting to the rim routinely. A deadly catch-and-shoot wing, his 3-ball wasn't falling often against the Cardinals, but he found other ways to score and impact the game. He's a strong wing who can finish through contact with either hand, and he was equally effective driving to his left and his right. He's a player who will contribute across the board - rebounding on both ends, playing solid team defense, and if this type of assertiveness continues into the high school season, the Bombers could be a real contender in 3A. He finished with 22 points before leaving in overtime with what looked like a back spasm.

2026 SG [player_tooltip player_id='2519969' first='Micah' last='Mattes'] (Newton)

The next in a line of Mattes boys to come through Newton, Micah caught fire in the second half of Newton's comeback win over Ballard, knocking down a number of 3s, and doing so in a variety of ways - coming off a screen and knocking it down off the catch, off the dribble, off a set play using a flare screen and popping out. He has a quick release off the catch and extended range. He finished with 14 points and knocked down four 3-pointers, while also showing some ability to attack hard closeouts off the dribble, getting the defense to collapse and finding open teammates.

2026 PG [player_tooltip player_id='1736401' first='Emmanuel' last='Tete'] (Southeast Polk)

Tete was in complete control on the offensive end of the floor from the opening tip for the Rams in their win over ACGC. A cat-quick guard who changes directions without losing speed, he was difficult for opposing players to contend with, as his speed was simply too much to keep out of the painted area. He's a good finisher around the rim with either hand, and his ability to play downhill and put pressure on opposing defenders was on full display throughout. He can either get to the bucket for finishes or he gets the defense to collapse, in which case he sees the floor well and is a willing passer. He can be a pest on the defensive end with his speed and aggressiveness as well. He finished with 14 points and a handful of assists.

2025 CG [player_tooltip player_id='2397210' first='Brody' last='Buck'] (Madrid)

Buck has always been an explosive offensive player, but this was the most under control and efficient I've seen him play. He played at a high level against a 4A school, Ankeny Centennial, showing his ability to score from all three levels and operate with or without the ball in his hands. The lefty has a quick first step that he uses to get by defenders and into the paint, where he can either finish or find an open teammate with his good vision. He shoots it well both off the dribble and the catch with a smooth, left-handed stroke that gets good rotation. He finished with 16 points in the narrow loss to Centennial.

2028 F [player_tooltip player_id='2439640' first='Jevyn' last='Severson'] (Madrid)

Good luck to other 1A teams for the next four years, because [player_tooltip player_id='2439640' first='Jevyn' last='Severson'] is here, and he's legit. The 6-4/6-5 forward can score inside and out, showcasing smooth footwork on his post touches with a few go-to moves and counter moves. He can step out and stretch the floor with a pure stroke and high release from deep, and he's great on the glass on both ends of the floor. He does a good job staying vertical defensively and contesting without fouling, and he showcased some impressive quickness and athleticism with a big chasedown block in the fourth quarter. He's already physically advanced for a freshman, and he has a frame that he can continue to add strength to, which will only continue to make him an increasingly difficult matchup, as he'll be able to physically overpower defenders.

2027 SF [player_tooltip player_id='2419749' first='Evan' last='Abbott'] (Centennial)

Abbott was a player I was excited to get a chance to see in person, and he didn't disappoint. With heavy personnel losses to graduation, there are plenty of minutes and shots available this coming winter for Centennial, and Abbott, a skilled sophomore wing, looks like he's primed to step up and be a leader for this group. A versatile three-level scorer who can attack off the dribble and get to the rim or knock down shots from deep off the catch, he can do a little bit of everything on the offensive end, but he's not a ball stopper, either. An active rebounder, especially on the offensive end, he can also defend a few different spots defensively. He had 18 points, including the game-winning 3 against Madrid.
