It’s one of the few platforms were sneaker brands and top independent teams can compete against each other regardless of brand affiliation. A few kids from Northeast GA traveled to Spartanburg, SC, the weekend of May 4-5, and showed why their names belong on the list of college coaches.
Matthew Collins
Matthew Collins
Matthew Collins is a new name that everyone should keep a look out for. He’s a shifty Combo Guard with good court vision. He looks to score when the ball is in his hands, but he also plays well within the flow of the game. Matthew is a reliable beyond the arc, pulling up mid-range and scoring around the rim, making him a 3-level scoring threat. He sees the floor well and doesn’t hesitate to get the ball to an open team. As Matthew continues to get stronger and more athletic, coaches will be impressed how often he’s able to get in the lane and create for himself and his teammates.
Tristan Hull
Tristan Hull
Tristan Hull is another newcomer that deserves some attention. He’s a 6′ combo guard that’s wired to get to the rim and score. His ability to change direction frees him up for to finish with either hand around the basket. He has a wiry build and gets out in transition well, with the ability to take a bump and play through contact. He can knock down the occasional 3-ball, and when he gets going, opponents have to play him honest, or he’ll make you pay. Tristan’s trajectory will increase significantly, as his frame continues to fill out and vertical jumping ability improves, he can be a well sought after player when it matters most.
DJ Hubbard is a prospect that is trending upward and rapidly. He’s had great performances, so far during the travel ball season, and he’s not just showing flares of ability, he’s showing that he can compete at a high level and consistently be one of the leading scorers in the process. DJ’s ability to handle the ball while looking down court makes him a major threat in transition to either score or find an open teammate for an easy basket. DJ came into the travel season a good 3-point shooter and he’s improved his efficiency and range. The upcoming live period could work heavily in DJ’s favor in regards to college recruitment.
