Continue ReadingGreater Houston Live was a tournament that was put on by Texas Takeover and RCS Sports to allow some local/travel teams to come to a FREE event and put some work in on the hardwood. Teams definitely made the most of this opportunity and many hoopers put their names on the map. There were several new faces that were listed as top performers at this tournament, but I wanted to give recognition to a few who stood out among the rest.
Shia Francis
Shia Francis
Shia was aggressive attacking the basket all day on Saturday for his Takeover UA team. Francis was able to constantly finish through contact and knock down several free throws to find and-one plays. His defense was high level as he was the most vocal one on the court and was able to pressure his matchup into throwing a bad pass many possessions and coming away with transition points for the Takeover squad. Look for Shia to make a big splash this summer and put his name on the map for the top 2026 players in Houston.
Q’Mar Fobb
Q’Mar Fobb
Fobb was the definition of a hybrid guard this game as he was the most unselfish player on the court and always kept his teammates involved. Q displayed great shooting off the dribble as well and was able to beat the defense from all three levels. His hustle play was unmatched and definitely helped swing the momentum towards CME Elite.
Trent Burke
Trent Burke
Trent was a do-it-all hooper in TMA’s game against Beast Elite . He showed that he can either knock down a wide open three pointer if left space or drive to the basket and finish through the outstretched arms of defenders. His consistency with shooting and hustle play was what drove him apart this game from other players on the court. All in all, his team got the blowout win over Beast Elite and Trent made a major impact on the result of this contest.
Byron Bibbs
Byron Bibbs
Bibbs was the high flyer in Texas Takeover’s UA Rise team win on Saturday afternoon. He finished several big time alley-oops from teammates underneath the basket and had some big time dunks as well to swing the momentum. Byron could best be described as an “energizer bunny” this game as he was all over the court and was taking flight nonstop. Look for Bibbs to make a huge splash this grassroots season if he continues his momentum and unstoppable play.
Jase Mason
Jase Mason
Jase was the main hustle player for his team this weekend, playing full court defense from tip off to the final buzzer and notching several steals/forced shots from his matchup. Mason is a playmaker for this Trae Young Texas squad and constantly is able to control the pace of the game through his point guard status. He has continued his momentum over from the regular season playing with Atascocita to this summer in grassroots and is making the most of his AAU season.
