Continue ReadingAs the Indiana High School Basketball nears its end with the 114 Annual Boys Basketball State Finals on Saturday and we prepare for the upcoming grassroots season it is time to update all of our prospect rankings here at Prep Hoops Indiana. Last week, we gave a final update to our Class of 2024 Top 150 and now we have a freshly updated Class of 2025 Top 150 plus an ever-growing Watch List.
First off, as is always the case, these are PROSPECT rankings not PRODUCTION rankings. There will be players ranked in the Top 150 that just got their feet wet at the varsity level during their junior season while there are players on the watch list that have put up numbers since their freshman season. We are attempting to project to your college level, not what you are as an Indiana High School Basketball player. While you will find Class 1A players highly ranked, Class 4A players on the Watch List, rural kids ranked highly, etc. there is always the dilemma that not every situation is created equally. Just because you have had individual success at one school does not mean that would be replicated at other places. Also, winning matters. Generally speaking (but certainly not always the case) averaging 8.0 points per game for a state title contender translates better to the college level than averaging 18.0 points per game for a sub-.500 team. Obviously none of these examples are meant to refer to any specific player, but they simply are a look behind the curtain as to what all goes into this process. It is an inexact science without a clear answer to “how we do it” other than having six years of college coaching experience and well over a decade of scouting Indiana High School Basketball players.
Secondly, it is true, that rankings really don’t matter. I know that is a bit of cliche and I understand why they matter to players…that is why I spend countless hours evaluating prospects and then pour over all information time and time again to put out the most accurate ranking possible. I know it matters to YOU. However, they don’t matter much at all to the people who actually matter…college coaches. When a college coach asks me about a prospect they don’t look to see what he is ranked and I don’t look before I respond. Evaluations matter…rankings don’t.
Finally, I am always very transparent when it comes to rankings. My email address is coachbrandonramsey@gmail.com or you can find me on Twitter @BRamseyKSR. Reach out to me if you have any questions or if you would like to submit information to be considered at the next update. We do these 3-4 times a year because we know it is an inexact science. There will always be someone flying under-the-radar. However, we at Prep Hoops Indiana, do as good of a job as possible covering every single corner of the state and find good players from high-major Division I prospects to Division III prospects and everything in between.
Also, as an editor’s note, I removed all none-IHSAA players from the “season end” update. La Lumiere prospects are now on the Watch List until they have a new, confirmed “home” for next season. There is too much moving around within the prep school ranks and I want to give due credit to the IHSAA members. However, just know that there would be a handful of La Lumiere prospects at the top of the these rankings if we had left them in for this update.
Now, without further ado, let’s dive on in to our updated Prep Hoops Indiana Class of 2025 Prospect Rankings!
