Prep Hoops takes a look at some of the guards who took advantage of the big stage on it’s first day. Read on for the quarterfinal wing standouts:
The athletic wing forward finished with 18 points and 14 rebounds in their quarterfinal victory over Ridge View. At his size, he loves to get out in space and finish at the rim with explosiveness. If he can bring that same mentality into the half court game more consistently, Wilson could take his game to another level.
Corbett was much more aggressive on day two, both getting into the lane and finishing or hitting mid-range jumpers. He finished with a team high 14 points in their loss. A rangy guard who can defend multiple positions and shows good vision, it will be interesting to see how Corbett develops over the next 2+ years.
Fragela’s shooting helped break the game open, as all 15 of his points came off of three pointers. A smart guard who moves well off the ball and has a quick release, he’s one of the best shooters in the state of Florida.
Johnson finished with an impressive 24 points and 12 rebounds in what was a frenetic quarterfinal matchup. The 6-foot-6 wing ran the floor very well and finished a number of run outs with athletic dunks. Virginia Tech is getting a relentless slasher who could develop into an elite defender with time.
The Swiss army knife wing did a little bit of everything in what ended up being a hardly fought 2 point loss in OT to Oak Ridge. Entering the game Plano East was 41-0. Colleges have taken notice, with UIW offering him a couple of weeks ago.
