Johnson finished with an impressive 24 points and 12 rebounds in what was a frenetic quarterfinal matchup. The 6-foot-6 wing ran the floor very well and finished a number of run outs with athletic dunks. Virginia Tech is getting a relentless slasher who could develop into an elite defender with time.

Tyler Johnson, A 6-6 senior small forward has seemingly become a tough matchup when it comes to defending the rim, as he can score with his length as well as off the dribble from the mid-range. Johnson has improved his confidence in shooting from the perimeter as well as that has seemed to improve since the summer. His defensive work has also continued to improve with his ability to guard positions 1 through 4 as he showcases elite footwork out on the perimeter as well as inside the paint. Johnson is also a good timely rebounder who doesn’t allow the opposition to get a second look very often. Johnson is a Virginia Tech commit.

Johnson was the motor and spirit for Oak Ridge despite falling to a buzzer beater. He started the game with a tough layup to break ice and didn’t stop there. Johnson finished the night with 17 total points and countless effort plays. His overall game and upside are incredible. He can shoot the three and draw fouls to get to the line. The mid-range shot was there, and he had some strong finishes at the rim. He was simply the spark for his team until Simpson was able to catch fire in the third.
