The Final Five has been announced for the 2024 Mr. Basketball award. Here are the five!
Isaac Asuma Isaac Asuma 6'3" | PG Cherry | 2024 State #102 Nation MN of Cherry. Isaac had 20 points of 9 of 16 shooting with ten assists, seven rebounds and five blocks in a section championship win over Mountain Iron-Buhl. Cherry is ranked number one in state and will play RTR this week in the first round of the state tournament. Cherry is 28-2 on the season. Isaac is signed to the University of Minnesota and is a top 100 four star prospect. Asuma’s constant near triple-double numbers and defensive player of the year level performances have him the Class A Player of the Year favorite.
Casmir Chavis Casmir Chavis 6'2" | PG Park Center | 2024 State #170 Nation MN of Park Center. Chavis scored 20 plus in the 63-58 win over Maple Grove in the section final. Park Center is the second ranked team in Class AAAA and they will play Eagan in the first round of the state tournament on Wednesday. Park Center is 25-3 on the season. Chavis is headed to Washington and is a top 150 ranked player nationally. The Chavis end of the game performances against Minnetonka and Lakeville North continue to stand out.
Daniel Freitag Daniel Freitag 6'1" | PG Breck | 2024 State #142 Nation MN of Breck. Daniel scored 27 points in the win over Minneapolis North in the 5AA final. Breck is 28-1 and the number one ranked team in Class AA, they will play Waseca this Wednesday at 6pm in the state tournament. Breck is 28-1 on the season. Daniel will be at Wisconsin next season and is a top 125 ranked player nationally. Freitag’s consistent highlight reel finishes continue to buzz around social media.
Isaiah Johnson Isaiah Johnson 6'7" | SF Totino-Grace | 2024 State #135 Nation MN of Totino-Grace. Isaiah had 31 points on 10 of 17 shooting with 13 rebounds, five assists and four blocks in the section final win over Fridley. Totino-Grace is the number one ranked team in Class AAA basketball with a 24-5 record. Isaiah is headed to Miami (Florida) and is a top 150 ranked player nationally. Johnson playing point guard and leading his team in every stat category has been very impressive.
Jackson McAndrew Jackson McAndrew 6'10" | PF Wayzata | 2024 State #24 Nation MN of Wayzata. Jackson scored 40 points in the Wayzata blowout win over Hopkins in the section final. Wayzata is 27-1 on the season and ranked number one in Class AAAA basketball, and is considered the best team in the state. Jackson will play for Creighton next year and is a four star top 30 ranked prospect nationally. McAndrew hitting the game winners against Totino-Grace and Hopkins (regular season) remain season highlights.
