The event brought out plenty of new faces and was a great way for players to gauge where they are amongst their peers. We were able to form 6 Teams out of the kids that came, giving us room to write about every team. In this article I will be giving you an inside look at Team 3 and what each payer was able to bring to the table.
Coehn Nitzel Coehn Nitzel 6'3" | CG University | 2026 CO – University
Nitzel did many things well on the day, he plays the game to his strengths and knows where everybody is on the floor. Allowing him to run the floor on offense which opened shoots on the wing. He also is a player that always seems to be in the right space when a teammate is in a tough spot.
Matthew Lerbon – James Irwin
The James Irwin guard made a big splash when we got to the 5on5 section of the event. Matthew was one of the shiftier guards on his team, using his handle to create space against the pressure. Once he was able to get a little bit of space, he stopped on a dime for a mid-range jumper that nobody could stop.
Alen Avdic Alen Avdic 6'1" | SG Bear Creek | 2025 State CO – Bear Creek
Alen Avdic Alen Avdic 6'1" | SG Bear Creek | 2025 State CO is player I’ve be able to see grow and become a more confident scorer over the last 3 years. He has a very smooth game and doesn’t get rattle by the different looks’ defenses try to throw at him. Which is mainly because of his ability to score from all 3 levels regardless of the size of the defender.
Mason Savoy – George Washington
Everybody loves playing with true point guards like Mason Savoy. He is what the game lacks now as far as IQ and wanting everybody to touch the ball. His quick first step always catches defenders off guard, forcing you to step up and help or give him a wide-open look. When defenders realize that they usually take a step back and force the jumper which he has improved on giving him the confidence to knock it down consistently.
Chaz Brooks – Pueblo County
The X-Factor for Team 3 was definitely Chaz Brooks and his abilty to affect the game without getting a lot of touches. He created extra opportunities for his team by chasing down rebounds, forcing turnovers and by talking on defense. Brooks was also a sniper when it came to catch and shoot 3’s, giving his team relive when they needed it.
Ethan Barker – Thompson Valley
Barker turned out the be one bets help side defender for Team 3, his quickness allowed him to get into passing lanes but still make it back to close out. Which didn’t happen to often because he usually got his hands on the ball and went the other way. He attacks the rim on hard as a defender you must move out of the way or get stuck in the way and commit the foul.
Ryan Vargas Ryan Vargas 6'1" Lutheran | 2026 CO – Lutheran
A player I enjoyed watching a lot was Ryan Vargas Ryan Vargas 6'1" Lutheran | 2026 CO , the way he plays makes him a perfect fit for anybody. He can handle the ball just as well as any guard can, makes timely passes to teammates every time and can lock up on defense. In addition to that he can shoot the ball from anywhere on the floor.
Nicco Tucci – Pueblo County
Nicco Tucci is player has no problem doing whatever needs to be done to win the game. He is truly a kid that just plays hard every game. At times he probably could’ve been more assertive on offense, but he stayed back and took what the defense gave.
Izaiyah Romero Izaiyah Romero 6'2" | CG Colorado Prep | 2026 State CO – Colorado Prep
Izaiyah Romero Izaiyah Romero 6'2" | CG Colorado Prep | 2026 State CO came in and put on a show all day. He is quick guard that can score in a variety of ways from pull up jumpers, crafty finishes at the rim, floaters you name he has is in his bag. He also put his athleticism on display with a couple dunks in transition. What was exciting to see was his passing ability, he found guys in rhythm and on time whenever they were open.
