The top performer of the day, Abrams was everywhere on both ends of the court. Active defensively as he uses his length and jumps passing lanes. The turnovers that Harvest Prep were able to force allowed Abrams to get out in transition where he had a couple breakaway dunks and layups. In the half-court offensively, Abrams caught fire from the outside as a spot up shooter, even hitting a sidestep 3-pointer as well. With his quick first step, Abrams was able to get to the paint and had some key drives including an and-1 late to give Harvest Prep some much needed separation. One of the more improved players from central Ohio this season, Abrams is on a clear upward trajectory and will look to lead his team to a state title on Sunday.
Brashers played maybe the most complete game I’ve seen him play in his career on Friday night. Getting to the lane and finishing at the rim, Brashers was able to collapse the defense and hit Jesse McCulloch Jesse McCulloch 6’9″ | PF Lutheran East | 2024 State #136 Nation OH on an alley-oop. His game high six assists showed that he was making plays for his teammates and setting them up in positions to score. Defensively, I thought Brashers was active on the ball and pressured the Preble Shawnee guards. If Lutheran East takes care of the basketball on Sunday, it seems likely the Falcons will lift a second straight state title.
A great Preble Shawnee senior class wraps up a four year run where the Arrows won conference, district and regional titles. This brings the start to a new era and Morton seems like a key piece to try and keep the momentum that the 2024 class brought the program. Morton is a strong wing who is physical in the paint and was efficient scoring it at the rim. Even stretching out and knocking down a 3-pointer as well, Morton’s motor was running all game. I thought Preble Shawnee showed a lot of grit to get back into the game after falling behind 19-2 at the end of the first quarter and Morton was a key factor in that comeback.
