Diaz announced his plans for college this week with a commitment to Eastern Nazarene College. A quality shooter with deep range on his jumper, Diaz does a great job of getting open off the ball. He’s does a great job of using screens, has good elevation on his jumper, and knows when to utilize shot fakes to get into his pull-up game. What’s most impressive is that he’s always shot ready and has a great feel for when to shoot, when to attack, and when to be a ball mover. Defensively, he has some tools to work with as he is long, has an athletic build, and makes instinctive plays off of the ball. He should thrive at the next level as a floor spacer and I’d expect that he’ll have a nice career at ENC.

Bergmans will stay in northern New England for college, but move two states east when he attends the University of Maine-Farmington. A high-IQ, power guard, Bergmans has garnered plenty of attention in his home state over the years and finished his career as a 1,000 point scorer. He’s comfortable as a ball-handler and it shiftier than he gets credit for. He’s tough to defend when he can get downhill and is a mismatch for smaller guards who can’t handle his physicality. He makes good decisions, is a willing passer, and does the little things that often times go unnoticed. Defensively, he can guard multiple positions, even holding his own in the post. With his skillset, he fits the mold of successful guards in the NAC and I wouldn’t be surprised to see him have a solid career at UMF.
Weiss made his college decision official when he announced that he’ll be attending Brandeis University. One of New England’s top perimeter shooters, Weiss has a high basketball IQ, solid passing instincts, and terrific positional size. He has one elite skill and that’s his shooting, a true seperator for him from other recruits. He’s equally efficient as both with the ball in his hands and off the ball in catch-and-shoot situations. He makes good reads in ball screen actions, can create space with his dribble, and picks his spots to leverage his shooting and get into the paint. Defensively, with his size, he should be able to guard up and down a postion at the next level. I’d expect that he’ll be able to find his way onto the floor early with his shooting and as he continues to add to his game, could have a very nice four year career in the UAA.
Barnes finalized his college plans this week with a commitment to Rivier University. One of the region’s most dynamic scorers with the ball in his hands, Barnes has a knack for getting to his spots off the bounce. He’s a good athlete that plays bigger than his size and has proven capable of scoring over and through bigger defenders around the rim. He’s got a full bag of tricks as a finisher, can really create space with his dribble, and has become a consistent and reliable shooter from behind the arc. He’s a disruptive on-ball defender with quick hands that moves really well laterally and can keep the ball in front of him. The GNAC is a great landing spot for him and I’d expect that he’ll be a big piece to what Rivier does going forward as not many first year guards are as impact ready as he is.
